Pregnant and 3.5yo needs MMR/Varicella

In order for my 3.5yo to attend public school in September I need to give her MMR and Varicella. I had originally planned on doing the MMR in January and then waiting until the school told me I absolutely had to do Varicella (probably a deadline of mid-October). Well for one reason or another we couldn't make it to the ped in January or February and then in March I found out I was pregnant.

My question is, is it safe to give her either of these vax's while I am pregnant (I have been vaccinated with MMR and had my titers checked during my last pregnancy and am immune) and had the chicken pox as a child so I am concerned about whether or not this is unsafe for my unborn baby.

I am really scared to vax her now in case it could be dangerous for my baby BUT I am also really scared that once I have the baby in November they will force me to give her both vax's at once.

If anyone has any information for me I would really appreciate it.

You can get an exemption.

I wouldn't be particularly concerned about you, but neither of these vaxes are ones I would give to my child.

To be clear I am not concerned about myself, I am concerned about the vaccinations shedding and there being a risk to my unborn baby.

If someone has an answer to my specific question I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

If you're immune, there should be no risk to your baby.

I think people are reacting to your distress about being pregnant and feeling like you are being forced to vaccinate your daughter by a certain deadline when it may be unsafe for your baby.

Just to reiterate you absolutely can NOT be forced to vaccinate in a public school despite what you've been told and you can wait until later if you have any concerns.

Rubella is most dangerous to your baby doing your first trimester. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00053391.htm

Chicken pox you can get more than once. I might be concerned about that as it can affect your baby in utero .

I am curious about this now. I was told by someone on this board that b/c I had already started vaccinating my daughter (we started with some vax's when she was 2yo) that I would not be able to selectively vax her (or any future children) if I wanted them to attend public school b/c NY is an "all or nothing state" meaning that, unless my ped was willing to say she never gave a vax, I now had to do all the required ones.

Does anyone have an info about this (or can you point me somewhere b/c I have been trying to research this since last night and am coming up empty-handed)?

I will gladly forego these two vax's if I can do that.

I don't know who told you that, but you can stop vaxing at any time. Just because you have done some of them, doesn't mean that you have to do all of them.

As far as school goes, I would claim a religious exemption and leave it at that. Your ped isn't involved in a religious exemption.

Not true. It's all or nothing once you take the exemption. You can "find" religion at any time.

A religious exemption is all or nothing; if they have a mandatory registry then vaxing off the radar while using an exemption is not possible. NY does not have a philosophical exemption that allows pick and choose.

... if i had to be cornered into accepting or battle unwanted medical interference in my life... i would homeschool, there are lots of long distance learning programs...and i do... it's not impossible and it's very rewarding.

consider excercising your right to a religious exemption, many people are using it now... though i hear in NY it does depend on what school or school district your in, some are more lienient than others and if they ask for an interview...get a lawyer to go with you
i am happy i moved out of ny.... i do not think i could tolerate being in that situation
