rain and the moby wrap

So far, in his short life, all my 5 week old baby has experienced is snow and cold. But rain will come soon. How do you protect yourself and baby from rain when he's in a wrap? We carry him in the front, generally in the "hug hold". For cold, I usually just put a big coat on and leave it a little unzipped at the top so he can breathe. But with rain, that'll get us both soaked!

Any tips?

I wore my kindercoat in the rain - it worked well, though I'm not sure it totally qalufies as a raincoat, and I carry an umbrella.

umbrellas are good if you don't need both your hands free. the kinder coat is awesome, and good for all kinds of weather because it's got all the different layers (outer waterproof shell, inner fleece jacket, and they zip together), plus it has a bunch of different snap-on hoods for the baby. i picked one up this year and am really really pleased with it.

you could also buy a cheap rain poncho and cut a hole in it for the baby's head, and just keep a good rain hat on the baby.

Umbrella's a good idea for when it's not windy. Thanks.

It won't work for blowing rain, though, or to go hiking where there are bushes in the way. Maybe I'll play with a poncho or something for that.

What is a kindercoat?

Stuff I've Done

I recently got a kindercoat. It works extremely well.

I've also put baby into a sleeping bag with a nylon shell, the kind of thing that people use in strollers (the one we have is called a nano bag).

Once, when we were going to be outside in very heavy rain I actually wrapped the baby in a plastic garbage bag before putting her in the sling. That also worked really well.
