CDs and clothing sizes

Thread Starter
I recently got a bunch of new baby clothes as gifts, mostly onesies, sleepers, gowns, etc, (i.e. not separates/pants/shirts) and I am wondering if the newborn or 0-3 month sizes will fit over CDs? Should I plan on exchanging some of these sizes for 3-6 months to allow for a bulkier dipe?

About Sizing & CDs

We're on our third cloth diapered baby. I haven't had issues with newborn clothes. Maybe they outgrow the diaper shirts a tiny bit earlier, but nothing significant. You can actually buy diaper shirt extenders to expand the crotch if it fits in all other dimensions and you want to get some wear out of it.

I don't find clothing sizes to be an issue until babies are walking. At that point, you need a bit more room in the bum for the pants to move easily over the diaper when taking steps. Overalls, one piece romper outfits and dresses work really well though. Heavier denim and khaki type pants were what we sometimes had issues with.

I think it depends mostly on how big your baby is at birth... if he/she's a big baby to start with, things will be outgrown quicker, obviously. If you have a smaller baby, you'll probably still get a good few months use out of the 0-3 months stuff

Also the type of cd you use, some are bulkier than others.

And third: It depends on the brand of clothes as well... some just run bigger, or are cut longer (onesies for example) and allow for the extra "length" added by the CD. (I love Katvig onesies for that!)

For me the biggest problem with clothes was pants for my dd. I get her elasticated waist/stretchy pants and one size up from what she normally would wear. Like PP says, I can imagine this being a bigger problem when she starts walking.

Onesies get outgrown faster than without CD too.
After a while, even thought dd is still within the "age range", I notice I really have to stretch them to close the snaps, making the top (neck opening) pull down too much. I think those extenders would be great for that!! I haven't seen them over here anywhere, I might buy some on Ebay or something

I put my dd in dresses a lot these days, but the first couple of months of her life, she wore mostly one piece sleepers/overalls/bodysuits and those fit ok, I can't remember having a problem with those. They might be outgrown a tad faster than without CD but nothing major.

If you really have a LOT of the newborn size, I'd consider exchanging some of them, I think.

But there are too many variables to be able to know for sure what size you will need. Big or small baby, body shape of baby (long torso vs short torso), sizing of individual brands, etc...

HTH!

My babies never fit in newborn clothes and only fit in 0-3 month clothes for a week or so. Once my kids potty trained, they went down at least one size in clothes.

My baby was pretty big at birth, 9 lbs 1 oz. I had a couple of NB things from his brother, and he fit in them for about a week (same as his brother). He wore 0-3 until he was 2 months old, and has been in 6 month stuff since then. CDs have not affected the clothing size so far, he has needed bigger clothes because he is a long guy and needed the length. I think you'll be fine with the clothing you have! Sleepers and such will fit just fine over CDs.

I never had a problem with clothes fitting DS. He is two now and on the long and lean side, so I am grateful for a CD that actually keeps his pants up.
