Yes...It is far too complicated to get into on this board but again...it is all explained in Janine Robert's book and meticulously documented

OK. I'll read the book.

Do you have a source for that? I thought it was due to an outbreak among a group of vaccinated and they determined that one dose was not quite giving the vaccinated enough immunity so they added the second.

Does anyone know where I would find the incidences of complications and mortality for this group of teens and young adults? I am interested to know more about these cases. The article seems only to say they got measles...yeah, and? Did they, as a large group have severe problems with these cases? I just find it interesting that that information would be left out.

[QUOTE=ema-adama;13429552]What I find interesting is that from previous discussions here it seems to be that the measles vaccine is one of the most effective vaccines at preventing clinical cases of the disease. So surely this age group would demonstrate immunity if they had been vaccinated?QUOTE]

The article is implying that the campaign in the 1990's was not successful so alot of kids remained unvaccinated and not exposed to measles until later.

Ukraine has had two major outbreaks of measles since 200. Ukrainians aged 16-29 have proven to be highly susceptible, apparently because of an ineffective vaccination campaign carried out in the 1990s, when the country was in economic crisis following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

If Ukraine cannot revaccinate at least 95 percent of the estimated 9 million people who got deficient vaccines in the '90s, UNICEF says, the next outbreak could be even bigger.

Although they are saying "deficient", I am interpreting it as not the 2 doses.

You are right, it is sort of unclear.

2–4 years after receiving a first dose of MMR vaccine at age 12–18 months, it was found that a large proportion of pre-school children had measles (19.5%) and mumps (23.4%) IgG antibody below the putative level of protection. Only a small proportion (4.6%) had rubella antibody below the putative protective level. A total of 41% had negative or equivocal levels to one or more antigens. The proportion measles antibody negative (but not rubella or mumps) was significantly higher in children vaccinated at 12 months of age than at 13–17 months. There was no evidence for correlation of seropositivity to each antigen, other than that produced by a small excess of children (1%) negative to all three antigens. After a second dose of MMR, the proportion negative to one or more antigens dropped to <4%. Examination of national serosurveillance data, found that following an MR vaccine campaign in cohorts that previously received MMR, both measles and rubella antibody levels were initially boosted but declined to pre-vaccination levels within 3 years.

Our study supports the policy of administering a second dose of MMR vaccine to all children.

I had the same thought.

Just did a search of the and I don't see any reports of deaths.

http://www.medlinks.ru/article.php?sid=23875

This gives stats on the number of cases and number of those hospitalized (966 hospitalizations in Kiev since the beginning of the year; then at the end the number of cases in other oblasts). No mention of death.

And this one

http://korrespondent.net/ukraine/events/468204

mentions 2006 as the worst year for measles in Ukraine when 5 deaths were reported.

So I assume that no one has died from it this year
