as DS puts it, i "finally, finally, FINALLY!!!!" caved and we are getting cable. 
i'm not a huge TV watcher to begin with, and don't have a ton of time for it, so i tend to be late when it comes to THE shows to watch. i didn't get on the friends bandwagon until it was into the 7th or 8th season and that was only b/c i started watching the older episodes that were in syndication & on in the middle of the night. ditto for several other shows. i watch when i can/want...which is usually at odd hours, so it's hard for me to keep up. BUT, i think the package we got will come with DVR, so maybe that will change. any suggestions?
so far i've been told i should check out:
-big love
-entourage
-mad men
-nip/tuck (i've seen this a few times @ my mom's and thought it was...um, interesting)
i do NOT like reality TV shows unless they are mindblowingly good and anti-formula (none of that someone gets eliminated every week crap). i love sharp/witty humour and/or dialogue when it comes to sitcoms or dramas. my fave shows are crimesolver/cops & bad guys types like law & order, CSI, without a trace, criminal minds, numbers, and so on. or PBS shows like endless feast, globetrekker, lidia's kitchen, real simple, etc.
i'd love to find something totally different/quirky to watch. oh, also, the boy loves science and nature shows. (i'm sure we'll be spending a LOT of time watching discovery, animal planet, etc.) that reminds me, i welcome suggestions on what to put the parental controls on too.
