homebirth in SC?

does anyone here have good info one the legal status of midwifery and availability of homebirth or birthcenters in SC? I have a sil in Raleigh who is having her first. She had indicated a year or so ago that she might go with homebirth, but i don't know if she still wants to. I would kind of like to read up on it and know how stuff is up there in case she asks.

Raleigh is the capitol of NC, not SC. Is your sil in NC or SC? (I suppose there could be a Raleigh, SC, but I never heard of it).

In NC homebirth is perfectly legal. I live in the Asheville area, and some folks do HB here with MWs.

oh! sorry, i wrote that wrong! that must look dumb She is actually in Greenville, SC. They used to live in Raleigh up until last year, and i must have gotten mixed up.

I just remembered that she is Rh- too. and bil is +. I bet she doesn't even ask. I never really looked up much on that before since it wasn't an issue for me.

CPMs are licensed to practice in SC. Homebirthing in NC is legal, but CPMs are not (yet) licensed to attend births...so technically they are breaking the law (though you, the mother, are not).

If she's looking for a MW, I'd recommend posting over in the SC section of Finding Your Tribe.
