copied from a PM I wrote yesterday after a concerned MDC member msgd me:

Quote:
i really appreciate you looking out for me.

i called the crisis center to discuss options. I got the number for the crisis ctr psychiatrist and they said i could even just call my family doc and have her refer me by phone and i could see the psych by tuesday.

option 2 is to go to the E.R. before 7am and see a psych there

i also called the pharmacy and discussed med options with the pharmacist who was very thorough and helpful. she even called the drug company to get ingredient info and called me back.

I also did a bunch of reading and found a few drug options that fit my dietary restrictions.

I had some friends over for dinner so i was busy the whole day. I am not in any danger of harming myself or my kids. This 'depression' is different. It's more stress, apathy and blahs, rather than angry, out of control rage and low self esteem. I know it's a low dopamine/catecholamine depression rather than serotonin and I haven't taken my supps the past 2 or 3 days.
Today was 'better', but i do have adrenal fatigue and I think the stress has reached a high point. we are going away for the weekend, and i'll be with dh. I can manage a couple more days and give a call to my doctor then

Just saw your notes from yesterday and today. I trust you need to do whatever you believe is best for your Self. There is no "wrong" in seeking a medical alternative. Your path will become easier as you trust that you deserve to feel better.

Sending healing, peaceful energy to you, Mel.

I've mostly been posting in the chat thread and i'll put those posts in this thread when i get a minute for my own notes.
Just wanted to post that i am feeling better. the zinc (50mg) and B's (120mg b6) and mag at night are making a diff. Mostly, it is the zinc, since I was already doing the other 2.

I should be getting my pyroluria test kits today or tmrrw. I'm testing myself and my girls.
I'm hoping it's the missing link. But with or without it, I know we are low in zinc so going to start supplementing the girls too. Especially dd1, I see her spiralling into poor health and I have to stop it as much as I can now! I don't want her to be depressed her whole life like I was.

What's the test? is it over the counter? I'd be interested in it...

Is it from http://www.kryptopyrrole.com/? I like the looks of the metabolic panel. And less than $150, I might do it. It does serum zinc (which I'm really curious about) plus the pyroluria test. Is serum zinc as accurate as any other zinc test?

I got the test through Recovery Systems who is going through Vitamin Diagnostics. I'm at my mom's right now and don't have the book. But you could look up Vitamin Diagnostics phone number. The test is $55.

here's a link with some labs that test for it:

Question: If Sam-e is working for me, does anyone know which pathway was blocked?

I can't say for certain but I think that would point more to your methionine being low than anything... Possibly due to homocysteine not being recycled. Which I believe is dependent upon folate and... B6?

Methylation. Folate and B12 and/or betaine (TMG) and phosphatidyl serine/choline. You're already eating lentils... how are you on the beet test? Low zinc could be low stomach acid and so low B12.

I am delighted that you are feeling better. It ran through my mind to wonder if the "correction" of the nutrients could make the test less accurate? Have you seen anything about that possibility? I haven't read anything to that effect. (I just recall that the gluten tolerance testing depends upon consuming gluten, or something along that line.) Is there a chemical indication of the pyroluria, which is present, even in the presence of adequate zinc, B6, magnesium? Regardless, it sounds like you figured out a way to feel better!

ya for the pyroluria test, you have to be off zinc and b6 for 2 or 3 days. I'm actually dreading that :

wow I haven't updated in a while..

I went to see a TCM doctor on Sunday and her view was basically stop detoxing, and REBUILD. she heavily emphasized that. Said that too many ppl pull foods from their own (and their lo's) diets and you should keep eating healthy regardless of the reactions (not major ones)..
I'm leaning towards her view more and more.

I went in because of edema that showed up thursday adn I went into the ER Friday because of it plus peeing fresh blood (again) thinking somethign was up with my kidneys. The docs didn't seem to think so, but didn't mention that the swelling in my face could be allergy-related.
The TCM doc though said that my bladder is weak (duh) and that we need to take care of that and from there we work on rebuilding my immune system. sounded good to me.

I did have a new (to me) supplementm L-glutamine, that had licorice and aloe in it. I'm guessing maybe it was the aloe since i've had licorice for months now. I called the company and they were awesome (metagenics) and are goin to take the product in for testing and refund my money.

I started my cupping course last night and have been practicing on myself, dh and the kids. (My dds were cupping a couple spots on my back too )
the cupping and massage the teacher gave me last night was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. So relaxing. I'm suuuuper excited. I have a bunch of stuff to study now for anatomy.

I'm also in touch with an ND right now who offers traditional avicennian (sp?) medicine as well as a master herbalist program, iridology and reflexology courses too. I am asking loads of questions and am going to pray on it today. It seems like a likely fit.

I've been doing lots of thinking the past few days/weeks and I was very confused about what I wanted to do FOR ME...but it seems to all be coming together...I want and will be like the old women village healers from back in the day God-willing

I just feel so at peace right now(get back to me next week.lol) and excited at the same time, that I will be confident enough to do this. I love helping people, and I love nutrition and natural healing and this just seems like an amazing fit for me. The price and timing couldn't be better either..

I've been also studying acupressure and using it on my son and it's working! Even for his mysterious burping issues. I know exactly where to press and within 1 min he burps. I can even tell whether to press on the left or right, based on his kicks. I feel we're so much more in tune and he's been trying to communicate this to me this whole time! I always knew he was in pain needing to burp when he kicked, but never noticed it was one side more than the other...it's amazing! :

I've been using it (acupressure) on my tinnitus the past couple days and had my teacher cup the 'tinnitus' spot, too, and it's reduced in volume by at least 30-40%. That's a big deal considering how LOUD it's been for years. I actually had to stop and listen for it a couple times yesterday.

in other news. i'm off ALL my supplements for the past few days and I'm not doing too bad. I'm only taking the herbal "atbx" for my bladder right now. I'm not sure what i'm going to do just yet, whether i'll stay off them or not, but more and more I'm leaning towards it. Guess I'll just take it day by day for now.

I started trying some EFT yesterday, too. I'm still skeptical but goin to keep at it for a bit. It did bring up some deeper issues though today so that was 'freeing'...My teacher recommended it for the recurrent bladder infections adn when I peeled away the layers I could (kinda) understand how stuffing my emotions about a certain something were related to the recurrence.

AND (sorry, last thing) I'm attending a personal development workshop end of May, i'm super excited about. I think it will help me tie it all together.

Arginex (Standard Process) is what osteopath just put me on for kidney/bladder support. The cupping/acupressure stuff sounds great. You sound soooo excited about all this learning. That's great!!

How do you determine a little reaction vs. big reaction in terms of what to avoid and what not to avoid? For DD2, all her reactions include waking up all night long, which I consider big because then her growth/mood is affected too. With DS, he gets a stomachache from most everything, which affects his mood and everything else. What would be considered minor?

Paging Never, Mel, please report back to MDC!

First, how's it going?

Next, what kind of dosage are we looking at for black seeds and/or black seed oil? It's officially on my list to try next.

Sprinkle black seeds on everything edible. It is spicy like oregano or pepper, imo. You can consume about a tablespoon a day for beneficial purpose and culinary delight! It is more effective unheated.

The oil is used transiently (few weeks or months) for medicinal purposes, maximum of a tablespoon a couple of times a day for an adult. Must follow quickly with a spoonful of honey, as the oil is nasty tasting.

All western research has been done on the oil, thymoquinone in regard to cancer. It is beneficial to treat ailments including asthma, bronchitis, rheumatism and related inflammatory diseases, to increase milk production in nursing mothers, to promote digestion and to fight parasitic infections. Its oil has been used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and boils and to treat cold symptoms. Including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prostate cancer, etc. etc. etc. It is amazing. We use the black seeds every day now!

Under what name should I look for when I go to the supermarket?

Nigella sativa.

Neveryoumindthere posted the following. She first recommended it and I did tons of research to assure myself it was beneficial and safe. It is also called Black cumin seed, which is derived from a plant with the botanical name Nigella sativa. Not black sesame seeds.

I googled Indian and middle eastern store and my city and found a list and called around to see if they had it. If they don't know with confidence that they have it, they don't know what it is, imo. The middle eastern store had it on the front counter! And it is a common food/remedy in their culture.

We also ordered some organic seed online from Mountain Rose Herbs. http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/

But, per a quick google here are a few sources.

You should be able to get black seeds from a middle eastern grocery store and/or possibly an Indian store(maybe call first?). It will be called either black seed or habbat-ul-baraka or kalonji (indian stores). they look similar to sesame seeds but black and they taste cumin(ish), or you could see if they have the oil.

Personally, I ran out to get some as an asap emergency stash until I could order from www.sweetsunnah.com so if you can wait it's better to do that. They're stuff is cold pressed, pure and you can get caps as well if you dont want to do oil/seeds.
Pregnant women should not use the Black Seed or Black Seed Oil. However, the oils of the seed increase milk flow in nursing mothers which explains its use as a galactagogue.
