My daughter has very dry hair (and skin). If I don't put oil in it, it knots up and dreads. Lately I have been putting rosemary oil in it and rinsing it in the shower. My husband thinks we should wash it but is there any reason I couldn't just skip washing it?

My youngest dd has food allergies and eczema (controlled now through her diet). I don't wash her hair unless she's gotten food stuck in it or has been rolling around in dirt. I bathe her, wet her hair and that's it. You'd never know to look at her or to smell her scalp, honestly. Shampoo is drying and is the cause of dryness and itchiness. If you wanted to use a small amount once every 7-10 days that might be ok. It depends on her body how much she can take.
Good luck! I do the baths around here so my dh doesn't know lol. I don't keep it from him he's just never asked.

Does she react to any foods that you've noticed?
On my older dd I use Dr. Bronner's baby liquid soap. She doesn't have any food allergies but has sensitive skin. If dd#2 needs a scrubbin' then I also use Dr. B's on her. Just a little seems to do the trick. Soap is drying. You might have to try out some things before you find what works for her.

I only wash my ds's hair every month or two. He doesn't have particularly dry skin or hair but kids just don't produce the amount of oil as adults so it looks fine even though he has relatively thin hair. It looks nice right after it's been washed but a couple days or a month all looks the same. A rinse is good if he's been playing in a dirt pile. Or if I cut his hair. So, yeah, I don't see why you couldn't just not wash your dd's hair.
ETA: I think ds's scalp gets a little itchy after a month or so without washing, now that I think about it. But, still, hair washing doesn't need to be very frequent.

I would be so scared. My hair is so greasy!
I only wash my kids hair when it looks oily/dirty. DS 3 once every 2 weeks and DD 10 once a week. |
DS is 13 months, and I think his hair has been washed once. Granted, he doesn't have much hair.

I agree that shampoo and soaps are just drying...and I also used to think that I would NEVER be able to not wash my hair. The products we use create a vicious cycle, because they actually cause our bodies to create more oil because the soap/shampoo strips so much of the natural oils.Once I started laying off the shampoo and using apple cider vinegar(diluted 1:10)as a rinse...my oily hair is no more!!
