Stopping WBVs?

DH thinks we should skip DDs wbv today. He doesn't see the point in going and me arguing with them... We don' vax and so he wonders what the point is.
So... is there a point to us going?
DD has state health care, but we sent in the renewal form 2 months ago and haven't heard anything back, so we don't even know if she has coverage :

Also, they can't call CPS and file for neglect if we don't attend, can they??

There's no real reason to go if you don't want to. You can always call, cancel the appointment and say that you're planning to bring her in a little later...I doubt anyone would call CPS. When they ask if you'd like to reschedule, say you'll call them to reschedule.

We didn't do many well checks with our second baby. They do seem pointless when you don't vaccinate.

Thanks for your input. DH says just not go/call cancel and if they have an issue later, tell them it was due to not knowing on the insurance. In the meantime he thinks I should look into finding someone that stresses me out less.
He admits that his main reason for wanting to skip today is he doesn't want me to get into a fight with them >_> (I am refusing to sign the refusal to vax form, and had a paper written out to nullify my previous signings, plus a multitude of documents showing that vitamin supplements are unnecessary, as that is a major issue with them)

No need to take your baby to a germy place anyway, especially one in which you don't get the kind of support/care you're interested in.

My DD is on state insurance also, and we don't vax. We went to her 2 wk. check up..2month check up..and that was it. We recently took her in for her 12 month check up a few months ago.The doctor said she would see her again when she turns 2. I personally didn't see the point in taking her in every couple of months, when it seemed as though the only reason they want you to come in is for the vaccines. Of course there are other people who think it is a good idea to continue taking them in for their check ups so that if anything is wrong a doctor can pick up on it. My DD is very healthy and I just didnt see the point in taking her every couple of months. I dont think it is a big deal if you choose to skip some here and there.I would take your child in for a check up once a year I guess, just incase there is something you arent noticing that the doctor might...Thats what Im doing anyways!!

We do one a year check-ups.

WBVs can be helpful

we haven't done any vaccines, but we did WBVs the first year (and then annually). i have to emphasize that we have had very respectful pediatricians who respect our decisions, whether it's not to vax or give vitamins or cowmilk. i had some trouble breastfeeding, which was diagnosed at WBVs, so the visits were helpful for us for that - though you don't need to go to the doc to weigh your baby and chart its growth. and i was so anxious as a new mom, that i felt reassured having the checkup. this would not have been the case with a ped who's not respectful of parents' choices, though!

I do them so I can 1. build a relationship with the doctor in case my twins were to get sick and need something so I could avoid the ER 2. in case anything is ever brought up about neglect from non vaxing, etc. I have proof from a doctor that my twins were not neglected. While I don't see the point, I still go to them just in case.

We don't do WBV's. DD1 was 2.5 (now she's 4) when we last went and DD2 was 2 months (now she's 19 months). Shortly after their last appt.'s, the ped quit on us and I've had a hard time fining a new one who is not closed minded, so we've just given up for a while. I would like to have a doctor just to have one though.

We have not gone to check ups in the last 10 years. No CPS or anything like that ever called. And we have a religious exemption in place at our school.

^ This. Because it's seen as the responsible thing to do in our culture, and because it doesn't HURT US to go, I like the paper trail and having a relationship with our (lovely, very respectful) DR. IMO, you pick and choose your battles.

We haven't been since January of 08' when DS was 9 months old. We never did vax and so I didn't/don't really see the point in taking him into a place full of sick people just for the nurses to weigh/measure him and the doc go 'yup he looks good'. That and the last time, at 9 months the doc said "he's kind of small..." - and he was in the bloody 48th percentile!!! So. Yeah. I keep debating about whether or not to do a 2 yr checkup now.

ETA: He's always just gone to my family doctor who I've seen since I was a little kid... so I don't feel like I need to 'build a relationship' - he knows me & my family already!!

I think finding a new DR is the way to go. WE were fired from the first DR we took AJ to when he was 4 mos old. We had his vaxed at 2 mos, he reacted, we did our homework and didn't want anymore so he told us to leave, of course telling us before that he was going to die from co-sleeping! We have a GREAT ped now, LOVE her and go all the way to the other side of the city to see her. From day 1, she told us she vaxes her kids, but she supports our choice and knows we're doing what is best for our family and has NEVER suggested we get a vax or brought it up since then (sometimes on accident and then corrects herself, oh, you guys don't vax anyways, but hasn't done that in a long while). She's a bfing mom herself so is supportive of that and we just really like her so going to appts isn't a big deal. We would see her enough more than likely just w/ sick visits anyways! Almost all of my non-vaxing friends see her, we just laugh and feel bad she gets stuck w/ all the 'weird' families, lol.

Exactly. These are the exact two reasons we go to all WBV's also, and believe me, I consider them completely and utterly useless: 1) to build a rapport with the physician in case we ever have a serious problem 2) for a paper trail due to our non-vax status in case of some stupid neglect charge, even if that seems far-fetched. Just a CYA thing. I think both reasons are very important and they are the ONLY reasons we go.

i like to go pretty much on schedule for the the first year and anuually thereafter....

i like having the growth charted for me, and just having a second set of eyes watching out for the kiddo

i think most of the charting and observations could be done at home though...

DS is 1 and we're not doing anymore. I dont see the point.
