Formula just as good as breastmilk

Well, has any one else been VERY annoyed with the "new" DHA & ARA nutrients?! Now my FIL is saying that I should put my 5 month old daughter on formula because it is just as good as breastmilk thanks to new developments in the ingredients. He says I am breastfeeding for "my" enjoyment. AHHHHH!!!

How many nutrients are in breastmilk that formula manufacturers can't even begin to replicate?! Isn't it like 100? Horray--they have managed to find two out of a hundred nutrients--good for them. Let's see the formula manufactures replicate the living cells in breastmilk and the antibodies!!! If I see one more commercial for this crap I am going to scream!!!! Sorry if my spelling is off, I am to mad to think about spelling. Well, I told FIL where to put his info. I can't wait to see his face when she is two and nursing!! Ha

Well, off I go to nurse my sweet little angel--that always puts me in a better mood. I love watching her nurse and getting the best, most healthiest thing in the world...my milk!

there are something like 35 neuropeptides in breastmilk needed for optimal brain development. these are two. they don't even know if these artificial ones will work. they also don 't know if just two will make any other difference other than just providing GI upset! yes! it peeves me!

nak, of course. it's calming, otherwise there would be a lot of asterik-swearing.

Oh puhleeeeeze! I have never heard something so ridiculous in all my life! Breastfeeding for your own enjoyment. Oh yes, I love leaking through my bras at all hours of the day and night and the sore nipples are just swell. Oh, and don't mention getting up at all hours of the night. Th twiddling and the nipping with the new teeth and having my boobs hang out in the the cool air while my babe socializes with the people at the next table is just lovely.

Don't get me wrong, I loved, loved, loooooooooooooooved breastfeeding my babe . But 'all roses and sunshine' it ain't!!! I look at it as an investment. A small investment for a big payoff for my son's health. It does require a bit of effort tho (for some). But in the end it's also more convenient and EASIER than bottle feeding.

Formula is healthier, my Aunt Fanny!!! Formula is to breastmilk like cheese whiz is to real cheese. How sad this attitude must make you in this day and age!

Yes, the formula ads make me mad too. Especially since formula makers are trying to block the pro breast feeding PSA's so their propaganda can go undisputed in advertisements.

What a great way to put it!

Uh huh, and (for the liberals in the audience) George Bush is just as good as Bill Clinton. After all, they're both presidents.

The president thing is how some see it and that bothers me. (no offense intended--just high emotion loosely directed at the world) Presidential favorites: that's opinion/philosophically based to an extent. The breastmilk vs. formula: that's just good science. How can medical doctors, nurses, anyone with highschool biology OR highschool chemistry OR a child's golden book that mentions the scientific method not understand that formula is inferior.

If this was my FIL I would have told him that indeed.......

I nurse for my own pleasure..........

the pleasure I get out of knowing that EVERY oz that is on my baby's body came from MY milk! NOt from the milk from cow in a barn 100's of miles away (not knowing what they injected and fed the cow before producing the milk)

Tell him to get some CLOROX to clean the FILTH out of his head......the ya talk with him some serious BF talk so that he will understand that BF is NOTHING sexual.

mommy nurses him!!!!!!!! "

No, I doubt filling up on sweet mamma's milk and being held close and growing up smart and strong are more comforting than fishy tasting DHA and AHA in cold bottles...

GRRR!!!!!!! (i love this smiley)

recently on another forum i go to, a pregnant mother who thought she "might breastfeed for a little while but will definitely supplement" : was asking for information about formula. another mother told her to make sure she got the stuff with DHA and ARA coz those are important nutrients.

people are totally missing the point!!!!!

every time they "improve" formula, more people get the impression that it is interchangeable with breastmilk. if it was so good, why do they have to keep improving it?!

i share your outrage. here is alot of information about it maybe you could print some off and show it to your FIL? http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/DH...-comments.html

Have you ever considered asking him "on what planet?"

Even the formula cans, including the "new and improved!":LOL state that breastfeeding is best.

Of course they follow that with "ask your {probably ill-informed} doctor".:
