Beco Butterfly II carrier help!

Thread Starter
My beco carrier just arrived today and I saw the DVD. At my baby's 2 month check up he weighed 11 lbs. 12 oz. The infant insert is for babies 15 lbs. and under. But I don't think my baby weighs 15 lbs or more already. It says that the infant insert is supposed to reach the baby's bottom and to measure so I can stick it to the velcro. I did that and when I put him in the infant insert his head was way over the top of the carrier. The shoulder straps fold in and it seemed like the insert hurts him. I'm thinking that he is too long for the infant insert? Can that be possible? What do you ladies suggest I do? Take off the insert and try it without it? Thanks for any replies.

I tried my son in the Butterfly without the insert when he was probably 12-13 pounds...he definitely was a little "lost" in there, but it worked for me when I was just at home and trying to give him a nap, etc.

With that being said...I had difficulty with the "measuring" thing. I thought maybe it was his cloth diaper butt? I don't know. BUT I will say that I gave up on the measuring and simply attached the infant insert at the lowest possible point (as if he were the max weight for that insert) and that worked for us. He sat perfect in it at that height for a while.

We did stop using it before 15 pounds regularly though - again, I"m sure his fluffy but helped that!

Hope it helps.

it does sound like your lo may be a little tall for the insert. the weight is only a guide and you should follow your intuition to try wearing it without the insert. it would help too if you can snap a quick picture of your baby in the insert so we can troubleshoot for you.

my babe was only 11llbs when i got my beco, but she's like 24 inches long. she was way too big for the infant insert. i just put her in the normal area with one leg out and one leg more tucked in. she loves it.

I prefer to have my baby's head lower than the back of the carrier, so I removed the infant insert after about 6 weeks when he started growing longer!!!
