Prefold/wrap advice?

Hi, ladies!

I'm coming back to CDs after a hiatus of one (super-rashy, ultra-high-needs) kid. I've spent the first three months of this third baby's life wasting money on various types of disposables, and I've realized I need to go back to cloth. I don't really love pocket dipes, though, because they just don't wash as well and, in my experience, inevitably start smelling like pee after a while. I guess I'll go with prefolds and wraps, and maybe double-diaper him at night.

I've got six or seven of an older version of the BumGenius one-size diapers, and about a dozen prefolds in decent shape. I have two Snappis, but only one prorap that would fit my little guy right now (he's about 14 or 15 pounds right now).

Here's what I think I need to order, since I'm knitting like crazy for my new nephew who's due in a few weeks and can't be bothered to make diapers/covers myself:

2 dozen Chinese prefolds (so I'll have a total of about 3 dozen)
8 diaper covers (I'm thinking I'll order a combo of Bummis and Thirsties, neither of which I've ever tried -- gotta see which ones work better on him) Is that going to be enough covers? He's only three months old, so he poops constantly and in disposables it blows out all over the place.
A diaper pail
2 washable diaper pail bags
A pack of those deodorizing disks, whatever they're called
As I said, I've got a couple of Snappis already. Do I need more than two?

Am I missing anything I'd be much happier having? Please advise! I haven't done CDs in about three years, so I'm sure there's something I don't know about.

The stash you are contemplating looks good. 6 covers may be enough and I think 2 snappis is probably fine. Then you've got one on the kid and one spare. fwiw, I like Thirsties better.

I use a cheapo trash can with lid rather than a for-real diaper pail and a simple cotton liner, but I don't have to tote my dirties very far.

You might want a wet bag or two for when you are out.

Welcome back to cloth!

I agree, that is a good looking stash. 3 dozen prefolds is great and you probably only need 6 covers. I also really like Thirsties covers. Our pail is simply a plastic garbage pail (no liner). I have 2 small wet bags, for when out and about. I don't use Snappis or deo-discs.

Do you have any cloth wipes? I really like Thirsties Fab Wipes.

I haven't CD'd yet but got 3 doz prefolds and 6 covers - I too am trying Thirsties and Bummis (snap).

8 covers does seem like a lot - but would be nice to have extra ime.

I just use a rubbermaid container - no liners, no disks & haven't had a smell issue (this might change once we start solids).

I only have one snappi. A second would be nice though 'cause I'm constantly worried I'll misplace it!

IME, I couldn't do without a wetbag/pail liner (well, two) because I don't dunk or spray and I don't want to have to clean out the pail every time because there is great potential for horrible mess inside. I also just use a step can. Deo-disks fit very nicely in the hinge

Yeah, I've never dunked or sprayed yet, and I'm not about to start now!

So I figure I'm stuck with having a diaper pail, since I'm lazy. I found some really cute wet bags on cottonbabies.com. I think I may order one or two, although for now I've still got a stash of disposable ones. Maybe I should save those for long trips, though, and then I wouldn't have to buy more later when we do go somewhere.

I bet the wet bags would be nice to keep by our bed at night in case I have to change him at 3 am and don't want to go downstairs to the diaper pail afterward.

Cloth wipes are a good idea! For some reason I always used the disposable wipes with my previous cloth-diapered son, and it was such a PITA when we were out somewhere and I came back with a poopy diaper with disposable wipes in the middle of it. I have a pretty good-sized stack of baby washcloths, though. Do you think those will work? There's a cloth diaper shop about an hour from here that apparently sells the Thirsties wipes, though. I'll have to go check them out the next time I'm down that way.

Oh, and I ordered my stash -- it was as I described except that I decided I might need some doublers, so I ordered a few of those too. I'm so excited for my diaper stuff to get here!
