when my toddler pulls my hair...

i just did something else instead of saying OUCH or showing him how to touch my hair w/ a gentle touch. (oh so much for this...he is now hitting my head and pulling my hair again...ho hum.)

anyway...what i HAD done this time is take his hand and stroked my hair gently and playfully said WOW WOW! WOW! and he cracked up thinking it was so funny.

as i said...so much for that. now he's hitting me and laughing...sigh. (shrug smilie)

i think i'll just redirect him/distract him w/ something totally different instead. at least at this age.........he's 16 mos.

I just told them, if you want to pull hair, pull your own hair. It hurts me when you pull mine.

This is why after each of mine were born, I cut my hair short. I just got so tired of it.

I usually say, "no, that hurts mama." and then if they don't stop I put them down and get them involved in something else. Around two, I start looking shocked and miming distress; I have noticed that it's around that age that they start feeling badly if they hurt mama. Before that, redirection is the only way...

I just love reading these posts and seeing how totally normal all this "aggressive" toddler behavior is. We're all in it together, and boy, what a fun ride it is

i don't think my little buck would understand that...i have to do my best NOT to smile (cuz even though it hurts, he is just so darn cute when he's amused...) & redirect him. he's so fun.

My two year old has been obessed with my hair since he was a newborn (he used to cling to it like a baby monkey ). Now that he is verbal he thinks hair is called "Ow."
