How Many PFs and What Size?

I want to try PFs with DS... and the new baby eventually. We have a whole NB stash of KL 0s so I don't think I need newborn PFs.. or maybe just a couple? DS is 30" and 25-ish pounds... what do I need? I am sick of the stink issues with our pockets and have heard PFs don't usually have the same issues... I want to order from Green Mountain Diapers... help!

How often do you want to wash? I only have a dozen prefolds for my DS who is 21 mo old and almost 30 pounds, and I wash every other day. I also have 3 covers, though 4 would probably be ideal. (he wears pockets at night, though). I have the toddler size pf's from a different site. Oh, and btw, my pf's have NEVER stunk. And, on a daily basis, I would chose pf's hands down over pockets, but this is just a personal preference. I know there are moms who swear by pockets.

Some other info, I have a nb dd who is 3 weeks old. I bought the preemie size pf's because I have small babies, and I don't like them. The ply is too thin and I have to use 2 at a time, PAIN. I have Kissaluvs and thirsty's fitteds, and I LOVE the thirsty's. I also have 2 doz infant sized pf's that I bought, but she's not into those yet (she's tiny!) so I cant' comment yet on those. These are just a few things I've discovered over the last few weeks. This is my first time to CD a nb, so I'm a newbie here. Hope some of this info helps you.

I'm thinking the red edge (but measure the rise and go by that for a perfect fit) and I would get 2 dozen to wash every other day I love GMD prefolds, they are awesome and it is soooo nice using prefolds and not having to worry about stink issues. Good luck mama!

I would get the short prefolds. Im not sure which color they are now. I will say that i sold my premium ones and got the plain 4x6x4 ones because i found the others to be to buly and thick.

If you are planning ahead i would go ahead and do 2 doz infant, with a couple of imse vimse covers ( they are my absolute PUL cover!)

Shipping can be really really expensive on prefolds, if i where you i would check diaperpin and find out if anyone is having any free shipping sales, it could save you $30!

IME, two dozen for an older baby in a blue or dark brown edge will kive you ample time to wash every other day. For a little baby, I think 3 dozen infant (not preemie!) is minimum. My brain was just too tired to remember to wash daily and the smaller they are, the more they poop! LOL

Diaperswappers is a great site if you want to try used. All mine were bought used.

I am not too worried about the newborn stage since we have a whole stash of fitteds... more from abour 13-15 pounds and up. I am still doubting if I am coordinated enough to get a prefold on DS but I figure it is worth a try!!

My dd wore the infant size until she was 21 lbs. They fit really from about 3 month all the way until she was 19 months (ans i could have gone longer)

If you are scared about the pinning you could always either turn your prefolds into contours or prefitted, or have someone else do it for you.

I know of some WAHMs that will do it for a small fee. LMK!

That would be so cool to be able to turn prefolds into contours!! I am so not that coordinated but I would definitely be interested in talking to someone who could do it...

Snappis are fantastic things. The little stage is the best time for practice, they don't fight back, LOL!
