So I called to set up our consult today. I am so excited and nervous, too. She is going to come to our home next Thursday, the 2nd. I have heard great things about her so I hope everything clicks. FINGERS CROSSED!!! When is everyone else planning to set up there apps/consultations?

Honestly I don't even know what country I'm going to have this baby in lol. I will be covered by my DP's insurance by then but it doesn't cover MW's and I don't want a hospital birth. Canada would be free for me and my good friend is a doula. I just don't know yet. Only thing I know is I want a water birth.

I set one up yesterday but I've since found out that my insurance doesn't cover the hospital or birth center she delivers at, so I'm going to have to find someone else. The hospital as half the C-section rate of any of the others here, so I'm just as upset about that. It's not that I want to give birth in a hospital...I just want to give birth near to one, because I'm paranoid by nature, and if I ended up actually in a hospital, that one sounded like the best bet.

I'm not feeling a strong pull toward anyone or any where else, but I have two options sort of figured out so I'll probably call and set up appointments today or Monday. I also have the names of two OB/GYNs my wonderful doctor recommends, so I might find out what their philosophies are.

YEY!:

I had a midwife with my dd last time. This time I am UP/UCing. So I just need to consult myself. lol J/K

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to a low key, non-testing, healthy pregnancy.
There is a lay midwife nearby who is very pro-UC, so I think I will contact her for possible postpartum care. I'm RH- and if baby is + than I will need a shot.

On Monday I have an appointment with the ob/gyn at my GP's office. I like the GP quite a bit but I have no intention of going to an ob for my prenanal care. I'm going to this appoinment to date the pregnancy and have insurance documentation of the pregnancy. Then it'll be midwives all the way! If heard our insurance co is pretty good at allowing them as an out of network caregiver. I'll be planning a birthcenter birth!

My friend is my MW, so I can see her whenever I want. However I am also a doula and know enough about birth to care for myself. So I will do a lot of my own care as well as I want to UC. I haven't talked with my friend about this yet, but I know she will understand. We've already had one UC and one MW attended birth.

I put in a call on Friday to the midwifery office and left a message. I'm hoping to go see her next week. Unfortunitly, the midwife that delivered DS no longer is here, she moved back to the UK and I'm bummed about that because she has over 30 years under her belt which made my choice that much easier to birth at home.

That's great! I'm still looking into my options here for this birth. I had my son at a hospital in Kunming, but it was completely intervention-free, which was really cool. We're living in Beijing now, but we aren't sure whether we'll still be here come December or not, which will probably influence things a bit. I'd love to have a homebirth if possible, but the logistics of it are a bit hard over here. I'll probably go for my first appointment around 8 weeks or so, so I'll start thinking about it more then.

I think I'll wait until 9 weeks or so before going in - I do want to to the combined screening, so that will give her time to order it and me time to schedule it.
I'm having bloodwork on Monday to check thyroid + Vit D - prescheduled, though, not pregnancy related, but something I need.

I have an appt too on Monday that was prescheduled to discuss results of previous bloodwork (though all was within normal ranges) and discuss low stamina/fatigue...now being preggo, this adds a twist to my fatigue issues!

I'm probably going to switch PCP so that I can see a very highly recommended OB who has attended several successful VBACs...gotta do that research and take care of insurance stuff soon.

Have you seen some of the new stuff that sorta touches on Vitamin D and fatigue and depression? It's got some really interesting correlations with labor/c-sections - nothing for sure, yet, but enough to make me suppliment to get my levels up to normal!

Good luck with your doc-shopping!

Thanks Apricot for bringing that up! My acupuncturist is also a midwife and she just recommended to me today Vit D supplementation not only for me but to help build up stores for the new baby. I have been meaning to look into Vit D deficiency, and will see what the Dr says about it tomorrow.
