They did say that they would cover MW care, if I see one in network. But, of course, they do not have a CMW directly, only a physician directory. Apparently, their MWs work UNDER an ob/gyn. So, if I want at least my prenatal to be covered, I have to work with one of them. But how do I find a good one? And are these physician practives with MWs simply just another hospital based doctor's office with a few MWs available? Do these midwives birth at home?

HELP!
Sometimes midwives who work with physicians are more medical-oriented; sometimes they are just stuck practicing that way because its the way the stupid system is set up and they do the best they can to provide a low-intervention alternative in the hospital setting. The best ways I can think of to find out whether one of those midwives might be a good fit for you is to:
1) Post a question in the "finding your tribe" section for your area so local mamas can tell you if they have experience with those practices
2) Seek out meetings of La Leche, Attachment Parenting, Holistic Moms Network, or ICAN in your area - whatever crunchy mama group you might have access to - I promise they will welcome your visit and I get you can get good recommendations on birth options from them
3) Call and set up an informational session with a couple of the midwife practices - some places actually have regular meet and greets set up for new patients, in others its set up like a 1on1 interview - but they should be happy to sit and talk with you as a prospective patient and tell you what they offer (if they are not, that's probably a red flag).

Good luck to you -
