they also have eagle river and Wasilla and Palmer.
I'm sure they will expand to other places! Did you leave a comment?

Has anyone gotten food from the Glacier Valley CSA yet? I am thinking of switching since the FCF is so expensive ($15 a box is a big difference!) but I wanted to hear some experiences before we make the switch!

I have gotten 2 boxes. I found the food to be very nice actually.
We got strawberries from CA and with the second shipment, the "owners" even wrote out an apology letter for the quality of the strawberries but I thought they were really quite good considering I can hardly buy them from the store looking that good.
Anyway, I found the whole box to be good quality and a good price. The only thing we never ate was the arugula but we did try the Kale. We found the box to be too much to order it every week so we will probably just do once a month boxes in the summer and every other week in the winter.

With our second box, someone had taken the wrong one from our pick up location but we got it all sorted out quickly and were able to pick up our replacement box the next day. The people who run the program were just awesome!

I really have nothing bad to say about them. I really really like the fact they try to get as much local stuff as they can.

I would order from the Glacier Valley one if it was an option but it is not. That being said I love my FCF box, I have been getting them for about 2 years now. I do put them on hold in the summer and shop at my farmers market but they are a life saver for me in the winter.

I have learned not to get tomotoes in my boxes because they get squished but that is about it. Yes sometimes I get stuff that is not grown in the pacific northwest but it is still better than what I can get in the grocery store. I don't really think that price is bad, it is less than I wouold spend at the store for the same amount of produce.

YOu make some very valid points! I think that more of us Alaskans need to contact GVF's and let them know we want them to try and offer boxes to more places!!!

I know they are new and just getting started but I am sure they would love to hear your feedback on this!!

With Glacier Valley, do you know ahead of time what is coming in the box, and can you change stuff out? I like FCF because I can tailor the boxes to our family's preferences.

Also, you listed what you got in your box-can you order larger boxes or more than one? That really wouldn't last us very long. We go through our whole small FCF box every week and are thinking of upgrading to a medium box.

I think they do let you know ahead of time, as on the website they made a post on April 23 with the contents of the box for April 29.

If you are really big into veggies or have a large family or this is your only source of produce, then yes, you most certainly may want to order more boxes. I dont recall a per family limit.
GVF is just starting out, right now they pre-order boxes and only have so many available for purchase. First come first serve.

As far as swapping out foods....I dont think they are doing that quite yet but I do think they have plan on being able to offer that soon.

Remember they are just starting out. So things will change and grow and get better as time goes on.

I pre-paid for 10 boxes from FCF. A hold on the account after 7. For two boxes in a row I didn't get extra produce I selected and paid beyond the regular price or they just didn't include produce they said was in the box (with no substitution). I emailed them and they said it happens - they'll make up for it next week. The next week - the box didn't have the replacement produce and was missing new stuff as well. I emailed again to complain and as for an explanation. I stated that if there wasn't a reasonable explanation I couldn't continue buying their produce. They said "It happens" and froze the account. No apology. No information on re-activating the account. When I inquired they said they don't issue refunds for un-used prepaid boxes. I was less than pleased. I don't know when I'll order my remaining 3 boxes.

I now use Wolf Lake Wellness & Glacier Valley Farms. I've been very happy with GVF.

Wow! That sucks! The customer service I got with my box from GVFs was so awesome! I'm sorry FC was not helpful.

We love WLW! Have not tried GVF, but have heard lots of good stuff about them.
Plus, they are truly local, unlike FCF, of whom we were not impressed with either
Ludie and I are actually working on lots of fun things for this summer, for the co-op!
Maybe we will meet IRL sometime!

Wolf Lake Wellness is awesome. It's definitely worth checking out if you want large quantities of organic quality produce- or want to order through Azure Standard or Frontier or (likely coming soon) Mountain Rose Herbs.

$50 dollars for a rather small amount of poor quality veges and fruit. considered to be enough for two people for one week.
Ditto for me, I stuck with it for a few weeks but the quality and quantity was really poor.

We cancelled with FCF after a very disappointing box. We had to throw everything but the cherry tomatoes and 1 zucchini away. I emailed to complain and cancel and they just said "oh, sorry, it happens." I'm sorry, but $50 is alot for us and those are some very expensive tomatoes!

subbing!
We enjoyed FCF last spring/summer, but around October/November, the boxes started... um, lacking... It seemed like less produce overall, and I was making my full 5 substitutions every week, since the regular offerings weren't things we like. When I would make a substitution, half the time it wouldn't be included and/or the subbed items would be overripe to nearly spoiled the day we got the box. I complained three weeks in a row over different errors/issues, until we finally canceled.

This summer, we're eating out of the garden and farmer's markets. I plan to can and freeze as much as possible, and see how long we can make our root veggies last.

Thanks for the info on glacier valley and wlw!

We still get their boxes. Well the last month I've canceled each week because we really didn't need a box between our garden, the farmers market, and Freddies. I have had problems with my boxes but I've complained until they get it right. I have heard that Freddies is going to be offering more organics once their remodel is done.
