Does anyone know who to contact to sue over RIC? Someone I know is thinking about it for when he turns 18. Requesting medical records is the first step, right? What then? Thank you.

Your best bet would be to contact the user 'Dave2Ga' he is a lawyer and would know something about this. I suggest a PM.

Who would be be suing? Can you sue over this? I agree that RIC is outrageous, but his parents made this decision when he was a minor. There isn't a statute of limitations?

I guess I just need details!

In most states you have 12 - 18 months after the realization of the injury or the age of consent to sue.

My understanding of the statute of limitations is that a man can sue between 18-19 yrs. or within 2-4 yrs. of realising circumcision caused him a problem. He could sue his parents, the doctor that did it,the hospital it was done at,maybe the insurance company that paid for it or the doctors/nurses etc. that talked his parents into it or didn't tell the parents the possible side effects. Also the AAP statements of 1971,1975,1977,1989,1997,and 1999basically said circumcision didn't need to be done and most doctors have ignored that and not told parents about it.

Don't forget, in 2014, the first males born since the passage of the federal Female Genital Mutilation bill (1996) will turn 18, and be able to sue the federal government for lack of equal protection.

Children under 18 have until they turn 18 to sue. They cannot file after the 18the birthday. Otherwise, it is a 2 yr statute of limitations. Children get the longer of these. So if it happened to a 5 yr old, he would have until his 18th birthday. If it happened to a 17 yr old, he would have 2 full years, to the date.

Hope that helps.

Here are a couple articles in re: law suits and circumcision:

http://www.cirp.org/library/legal/USA/llewellyn/
http://www.noharmm.org/knowrights.htm

The NOHARMM link states "Circumcised teens have a one-year window of opportunity for litigation that begins when they turn 18."

I can see this being a big one. I don't want to say I am 'looking forward to it' But I can smell change in the air.
