we drink about 24 ounces a day so I'm going to have to get creative with containers. I like the idea of doing a batch a week so you always have some, but what sorts of containers do you all use? And is there a way to get them cheap?

I have some large fancy "crystal" bowls I bought at a yardsale......can I use those you think?

We tend to not drink cold fluids, as they tend to slow digestion down.
As to containers, we use glass gallon jars.
Any galss container will work, so long as you can get 3 quarts in it, and still have room for the scobies plus some headroom. I used to use a large Pyrex bowl, and so we had dinner plate sized scoby's!
WalMart sells a square gallon jar for $5.

We bottle it in EZ Cap bottles. The same as the Grolsh Beer bottles. You can buy them at any wine/beer makers.
That type of cap allows for a wonderful fizz.

Check your "crystal" bowls for lead...if they are lead crystal the lead can leach into food/drinks...

I'm : that my new batch is working...I have mama scoby on the bottom and a new baby scoby on the top. (That's how it is supposed to be, right?!)

oh, good point, how do I check for lead?

I think you can order a test kit...let me check...yeah, google "lead test kit" and you get mail order and home depot links...

(another OT fact about lead crystal...it's almost impossible to get it through airport security...lead isn't xray able (obviously) and due to heightened alerts it is often a no go...)
