Dolphin Calf Born Deceased at the MN Zoo

"Apple Valley, MINN – March 26, 2009: – The Minnesota Zoo is saddened to report that a female dolphin calf was born deceased early this morning. The calf was the offspring of 21-year-old “Allie,” an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin who has been at the Zoo since 2008."

We're sorry to hear this and wanted to share in case anyone else and their little one's were following the dolphin pregnancy.

Nooo!! I am so incredibly sad to hear this! I know my son was so intrigued by the dolphin with the baby in her belly. I was excited as well! Poor Allie.

I saw that too very sad. We have a membership so we go fairly frequently. I'm sure zoo staff is devastated, they've been having such bad luck with dolphins lately and this was such a happy event to look forward to.

From what I read in the paper, Mama Dolphin was very sad too...hard for her to get that her babe would never swim or come up for air. I'm 10 weeks along and my emotions may be getting the best of me, but still so heartbreaking...
