Fitness and pregnancy

Thread Starter
I can't seem to find any thread on these boards directly associated with this topic? At any rate, I thought it might be fun to have our own little group here discussing this subject here, what do you think?

I go to the gym Mon-Fri and now the weather is becoming nicer here so I have started mountain biking on weekends.

What have you been doing and are you changing anything now that you are expecting?

When I was pregnant with Ds I did prenatal yoga EVERYDAY it was amazing and I need to get a dvd for this one because I can not imagine not doing it I was so ache free and could move so easily and flexible I also believe it helpped with labor.

Honestly, I'm lazy hahahaha. No, I am overweight and really need to start walking on my treadmil/doing my yoga soon. That is what I plan on doing.

I must continue a work out routine to keep me physically strong. Especially for labor.haha So I will continue my "Rocknbody" dvd, on low impact tho, don't want to pull muscles. lol I also have a pregnancy yoga dvd that I will use and I plan to do a lot of hikes as the weather gets better. I love the fresh air and I feel like that would be a great way to get my cardio in. I'm also going to do a lot of walking. My sister is signing up for a yoga class so I think I will sign up with her. That way I will actually do it!

I love to stay active. I'm a bellydancer and I know that alone will help with labour and staying fit throughout pregnancy. I also do yoga and I love to go hiking. One thing I may have to give up is ultimate frisbee and frisbee golf lol....too much hardcore running and chances for falling. I gave up extreme sports a few years ago cause I felt I was getting to fragile in my old age hahaha. No really though, when you get past the teenager/early adult stage you start to have a sense of your own mortality

I've been doing weights or cardio 3-4x a week and I'm planning to continue. Actually I just signed up for "Boot Camp" class Fridays at the gym because I can do it on my lunch break. I think the class is pretty hardcore but the trainer said it should be OK for me as long as I pace myself. 2nd tri I'm going to try to ditch some of my volunteer commitments and instead have DH to watch DD while I do prenatal yoga.

When I was pg with DD I really let it slide and I'm not planning on repeating that mistake. DH and I are normally very fit and like to run, hike, and climb together so I don't want to be out of shape for 6mo again after the baby. I'm even thinking about saving up so I can get personal training 8 weeks post partum. Crazy I know but I think that will force me to actually do something for myself PP and not obsess about leaving the baby for an hour.

I haul my one year old around all day and chase after my 4 year old. And to if that doesn't get my heart rate up arguing with my two teenage daughters sure will!!

You ladies are inspiring! I have totally fallen out of habit with my little exercise routine, which wasn't much to begin with I think a prenatal yoga DVD sounds like a great idea. Can I get recommendations?

I am going to continue going to the gym a couple times a week until my membership runs out in a few weeks. I already walk everywhere since we live in the middle of a city and have no car. There's also a big patch of forest a 20 minute bus ride away that I've been planning to get to know for ages, and I think now is the time to start. I also really want to keep my general condition up throughout pregnancy so I feel better physically and have more energy for labor.
Last night I did prenatal yoga out of Jeannine Parvati Baker's book of the same name, and I was finally able to relax after that. Plus I wasn't stiff and sore when I woke up like I usually am. I think I'll make it a bedtime routine. Brisen: this book is a really excellent guide, if a bit hippy dippy. I don't know if learning yoga from a book bothers you though.

I've been taking aqua aerobics, and I just love it. A couple of my friends did that while pregnant and said they felt fabulous all through pregnancy.

Still waiting to POAS...

I did my first boot camp last Friday and it was awesome. The trainer has it set up as a circuit and you do 45 sec of each exercise with 15 sec in between. I was feeling it yesterday.

I just signed myself up for Yoga at the community college. It's three days a week and it starts tomorrow!! Yes! I'm so excited! My sister is taking the class with me, she did it all through her pregnancy and she said it really helped her with stretching and relaxation techniques that she used in labor. :

Just bought my treadmill about a month ago, obviously didn't know a beanie was in my future at that point. Had been doing great hitting that thing for an hour/day. Until the BFP, suddenly I found myself so caught up in the emotional work of grasping this new life and incorporating it into my current life and sad to say, my beloved treadmill has been collecting dust, lol.

I have been lifting weights and doing cardio every other day and swimming the opposite days. I hope to continue until delivery. If I can't I'll just swim for an hour everyday like I did with dd. I really can't not workout I'm overweight and am worried about gaining weight. Last pregnancy I gain 90 lbs! I can't do that again. It also combats the stress in my life.
