Mei Tai Question

Thread Starter
Can you wear your baby in a front facing position in the Mei Tai ?
I have one and my DD likes it, but she loves to face outward to see everything .. is this possible .. if so, how would I do it ? Has anyone ever done this before, if so how did it work for you and your LO ?

TIA !

You can do it with a small baby if you cross their legs... I wasn't able to do it after a few months old though. And then we went straight to forward-facing on the back which DD liked well enough.

I agree that with a little one, you can cross their legs and then their crossed legs end up kind of folded up in front of them in the body of the Mei Tai (which is only comfortable if you've recently been in a uterus). After that, it would be tricky to keep your little one's knees higher than her bottom with a MT, and I also think it would be uncomfortable for you, since her center of gravity would be so far in front of you.

But pp is right, that a high back carry can solve the issue of a babe who wants to be able to see the world.

Look here for directions! But personally, it is not as comfortable as facing in! YOu don't get the same snuggle affect + the baby's back is pressing into you... That being said, my LO falls asleep everytime he faces towards me so I do face him out regularly so that he can see the world, and not fall asleep!!!

Forgot to mention that you can also tie the bottom of the MT together with a ribbon to make it smaller or twist the body of the MT if it's wide enough like a Kozy

I like my regular old pouch sling for a front carry.

I did this all the time. DS is Deaf so it was no surprise that he demanded to be able to see everything. We did legs frogged in for a while but he didn't like it for long. Then I tied an elastic around the bottom of the mei tai to scrunch it smaller so he could dangle his legs.

I also rolled the bottom a couple of times so the body of the MT was shorter and he could see better.

I was lucky because DS was born with good head control.
