Advice for Aristocrat

I recently phased out all my PUL and fleece covers in favor of 100% wool. I bought an Aristocrat for overnight and it's not working for me at all! Now, I'm not a wool newbie; I know how to care for wool and I've never had any problems. This one has me stumped though. Everything I've read about this particular cover doesn't seem to indicate that it needs extensive lanolizing prior to use. By 1 AM or so, though, DS2 and I are both soaked. I've never considered him an especially heavy wetter and our nighttime diapers (Swaddlebees velour pocket double stuffed with hemp) had been working like a dream. Since buying the Aristocrat, though, I've been experimenting with different things. The only partial solution so far seems to be to wrap his diaper in a prefold before putting on the cover. Does anyone else have a good routine? Could it be his PJs are too tight? I think I read that tight clothing can reduce the effectiveness of wool...

I really don't want to go back to my Thirsties. I love this cover and I want it to work!

Thank you!

ETA: Should mention that I did wet lanolizing twice and dry two or three times with the Sudz and Dudz spray. I don't think it's over lanolized, but maybe??

My dd peed right through an Aristocrat. They were not knit tight enough for her. You're gonna have to put a ton of diaper underneath. I switched to Dancing Bears fleece covers for the breathability like wool, but no leaks.

Hmm, my kids never peed through an aristocrat, even with a not-as-absorbant diaper underneath.

I did lanolize it very well, though. You still need to do that even with an aristocrat. Try a thicker diaper underneath. and yes, all wool can wick if you have tight clothing over it.

Hmm...how do you define lanolizing well? I've done it four times and it definitely felt sticky to the touch, but not too sticky. In my experience, I would have defined it as "lanolized well." Also, can you recommend a diaper? I've tried a double-stuffed Swaddlebees with and without a prefold wrapped around the outside, three different Little Beetles with various doublers, Cricketts hemp and cotton with doublers, and hemp Growing Greens with doubler. That's the extent of my stash, but I would be willing to try one or two other options. Perhaps two prefolds wrapped around a hemp insert or doubler?

Of course, Karen at GMD did say that for the heaviest wetters an Aristocrat wouldn't do that job. Guess I just never considered DS2 a heavy wetter!

In the meantime, I ordered a Dancing Bears fleece soaker from Inge even though I really want to avoid synthetics.

Good heavens! That sounds like "lanolized well" to me. I think I just washed my crat with a wool soap bar (those always worked the best for me) and then I sprayed it down with lanolin spray. It was like yours, sticky but not super sticky.

Those are all really absorbent diapers, wow.

Probably THE MOST absorbent diaper (warning: it comes with a hefty price tag) is a Goodmama. I've also had good luck with Under The Nile, though for you, I don't know if that one will work since it's probably equal to what you've been using.

For a wetter that heavy, you may have to use a pocket diaper stuffed to the gills AND an Aristocrat or some other thick cover.

As an aside, I love Karen and Inge! They are my two favorite people to order from. My kids are up on GMD's picture pages in a few places

Yep.. that's my dd... I lanolized the Aristocrat twice and put two premium prefolds underneath, and she still peed through. The Dancing Bears works great, though!

Karen and Inge take such good care of us, don't they?

So, yeah! Guess DS2 is a super-wetter! Who knew?? Ah well. I still love the Aristrocrat and I'll get lots of use out of it as a daytime cover especially this summer! DH wasn't too enthused about ordering MORE diapers/covers, but I'll keep the Goodmama in mind! Thank you!

I'm excited to try it. I ordered it last night and Inge shipped it this morning! :
