Width of wrap for back carries?

I am having zero luck with rucksack-style carries with my wrap and I suspect that mine's not wide enough. So how wide does it need to be?

I've also tried rotating my frontwrap cross carry (the only carry I can do in the wrap, I can't tie her onto me) to the back and had major tension issues. Either it was so tight I cut myself in two trying to rotate it or so loose she just leaned back and fell onto the bed.

I get the best rucksack with one that's 70cm or so. I think that comes out to 25 inches.

fyi, 70 cm is more like 27.5 inches

width is definitely important with a ruck. if you have the length in your wrap, it's nice to also do either a supported ruck (where you widen out the straps and cross them over baby's bum for extra support) or do a lexi-twist where you twist the wrap a few time starting behind baby's back before bringing it under legs and tying around front - both techniques offer more support for baby's weight, and reduce the likelihood of 'butt-poppage'

it sounds to me like maybe you need to work on adjusting the rails separately. perhaps you are pulling in the middle, and therefore it feels snug in places and loose in places. try adjusting the top rail and bottom rail separately from the center of the wrap, so you've got the right amount of support/slack where you need it. then once you've got it pretty much where you need it, give a little jump/tug which will help baby sink down in the carrier and snug up the wrap a bit all around before you tie it off.

if you haven't checked it out, over at TBW they do a 'carry of the week' COTW and they have threads with links to videos (and pictures and discussion) about all manner of wrap carries - so those might be helpful for you to check out too
