We decided to get an extension on our taxes, since apparently we have elected the wrong tax status for our business. This is actually a relief - after April 15th, the accountant will actually be able to chill out and focus and give us well-considered advice.

Groceries are on track to go over, but household is on track to be under this month, so I'm trying not to fret too much...

Argh- I was all proud of myself for putting money to savings for a new vehicle, which we planned to buy in a few months, using mostly cash if possible. Well, the car has decided that it has other plans, to the tune of half of its trade-in value, and it looks like we may end up having to purchase a new vehicle this month rather than in four months as planned. Not enough saved yet to get a dependable family vehicle without a loan, and not looking forward to starting car payments again while I'm on maternity leave and not bringing in any paychecks.

I'm thinking we should try to really underspend on groceries this month by eating out of the pantry more, to make a little more leeway in the budget.

1- : $500 to car fund, : $0.60 library fine
2- , 30 minutes
3- , 45 minutes
4- $41 groceries; $5 DD flip-flops; $20 labor items; $7 gas
5- : $2.20 cafeteria food at work
6-
7- $5 groceries, : $11 Easter items
8-
9- , 2 hours decluttering
10- $11.40 groceries;
Thrift store: $5.97 homeschool books, $4 DD jeans, $7 new baby clothing, : $1.38 self books and $5 fabric for me, $19.27 gas

April key and goals:

Budgeted
Groceries /household $57.40 / $450
Gas $26.27 / $60
Homeschool $5.97 / $20
Kid clothing & items $9 / $20
New baby items- $27 / $40 for new baby/ labor prep items
: unbudgeted spending $20.18 / $20
No spend days 5 / 20 days
Declutter (so I will know what I have!) 3 / 10 days
: Money to savings for replacement car fund- $500 / $500

Please write an introductory message when you decide to join our thread. We would like to know:

a. Who you are

Michelle and John.
We are hoping to get healthier and reneter in to the Army by the end of Summer. Oh and hoping for our first baby so we need to pay off debt. I hate those nasty phone calls that come 8 million times a day! We were in a habit of spending way too much money. We are college students making less then 1/3 of what we did 18 months ago. We really need to get used to spending less. Credit cards are outragous... I guess not by the standards of the "average household" but by our standards.

b. Where you are going (your financial goals) and

credit card free then car loan free!.... Never again. I want to get to a point where we can pay cash for everything.

c. How you plan to get there

track spending.. actully look at the bank statment.

I love this! Last week we decided that we will only go out to eat once a week. We were going out almost every day!
April 9: no spending... I went to work without eating and was famashed! We "sampled" oatmeal and I got my free partner beverage of a Protein drink. I then arrive late to class after work so I could go home and eat dinner! I really need to plan thursdays better I leave home at 7am and don't return till 930 pm.
April 10: Our one day meal... dog House deli ($21)It was great! (then blizzards at DQ $10) oh no I just remembered we had ice cream twice!!!!

I knew Thursday (4/09) was going to be bad -- it was my "Out and About" Day and I needed Tylenol and allergy meds -- but I didn't realize how bad until I added up my fast food purchases. Ugh!

I bought a baby blanket at Goodwill for 53 cents. It had a red tag, so it was half-price from $1. I had the change in my wallet, so it's not like it came out of my bank account. And baby blankets are useful, or so I hear.
