Can I join you here?

My daughters were born 21st March at 25 weeks gestation.

Update one:
I know I was mostly a lurker here, but I feel the need to post about this. My identical twin daughters, Lucasta Posey & Romilly Violet, were born Saturday, 21st March at 8:50 AM by emergency caesarean. Lucasta was the bigger of the two, weighing 544 grams (1 lb 4 oz) and measuring 28 cm (11 inches). She was born at 8:50 AM. Romilly followed less than one minute later, weighing 540 grams (1 lb 3 oz) and measuring 28 cm (11 inches). They were born at 25 weeks gestation.

Both girls are doing as well as can be expected. At this point, they have both been given a 60% chance of survival to discharge. I will attempt to update periodically. At this point, both girls are stable in the NICU and are recieving oxygen and nutrition. At this point I am in shock and so frustrated with the doctors, who claimed that the caesarean was necessary as the twins were in their early stages of TTTS. As you can see, the ultrasound was incorrect.

Continual prayers and support for Lux and Milly would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Annalisa, Rhys, and Family

Update Two:
24/3/09:

Hello friends,

Now that the girls are 3 days old, we finally have a few things to update you all on. First off, Annalisa & Rhys would like to thank you for your continuing support and prayers for the girls.

Although Lux was our "strong girl" in utero, she's having more complications out of utero than Milly. She has had periods of tachycardia AND bradycardia. Although she previously did not require it she has been put on a CPAP machine to assist her with breathing. She has gained 3 oz in the past couple of days, bringing her up to 1 lb 7 oz.

Milly is our out of utero "strong girl"! Thus far, her only problems are periods of apnea, and she too has been placed on a CPAP machine. Her heart seems to be working perfectly, though. She has gained 5 oz in the past couple of days and she has now caught up to her sister in terms of weight.

Annalisa was released from hospital and has come home. She is pumping like mad and spending most of her time at the NICU with Lux and Milly.

The doctors predict that they will spend 2 or so months in NICU before being moved to SCBU, although he cannot predict how long they would be in SCBU for. They seem very optimistic for the girls' survival.

Please continue to pray for them.

Annalisa and Rhys

Update three:
First, allow me to apologise for not keeping up our updates. I am considering a blog, between family, bbc and elsewhere, I have a difficult time updating everyone!

Second, no news in this case has definitely been good news! Both girls continue to thrive and we are SO happy for their progress, so very blessed.

First, Lux, since she has suffered more problems. While Lucasta's heart problems are beginning to smooth over (fewer episodes of tach&bradycardia these past few days), her breathing problems continue to be omnipresent. She suffers from periods of apnea and has had some aspiration issues with her gtube, so they've had to decrease her feeds. However, she has gained a little weight in spite of this and is now at 1 lb 9 oz.

Romilly continues to be an absolute superstar as well. She is getting expressed breastmilk through her tube and we are hoping to start feeds orally within the coming weeks. Her breathing is normalising and she has been moved to regular oxygen via cannula. She is now at 1 lb 12 oz!

For the first time this week we were able to bring the girls' elder siblings to see them, which went quite well. However, the girls were overstimulated after the visit and we will not be attempting another for several more weeks.

I will keep you informed!

Annalisa

I'm glad to hear they're doing well. My twins were born at 25w4d and they were in the NICU for just under 3 months.
Starting a blog to update their progress is probably the best thing I did. Things can change hour to hour and even minute to minute and it's nice to be able to update once and then have people read the blog.
I will be thinking of you and your daughters. I hope to continue to read positive updates.

Welcome and congrats! I had a micro 3 plus years ago- Maggie was right under/at 25 weeks and had the same issues as the girls. But her PDA needed to close before getting BMilk. There are several preemie twin mama here who will be great fountain of information and support.

I know the feeling of trying to update dozens of people. We elected a "family spokesperson" or actually a few who talked to people, sent out emails etc and its much easier those first couple of weeks. MY brother and SIL became the person who talked to family, explained why we could not talk- we would break down within seconds duh but its exhausting to explain or commiserate several times daily as you know. My best friend became the spokesperson for our community of friends, talked to others who organized meals for us etc. It was a lifesavor doing this. HTH and cannot wait to her more about your new girls.

Hi Annalisa, nice to see another UK mummy
sorry it's under these circumstances

Do you know about TAMBA in the UK?
That's another place to meet mums local to you if you feel like you need to find some mums face to face.

I also found blogging a helpful way to cope with the changes, and posting here for support.
I hope everything continues as smoothly as possible and your strong little girls thrive.

If you need support on any particulars, just pop back and ask, ask, ask
