Bring drops with you, how can they refuse! I would rather risk the slim chance of CPS taking my child from me for a day then risk them getting Leukemia!

You do realize that if CPS takes the child, they will most likely give them the shot anyway??

The point I was making was that the chance of them taking them is pretty slim! So decline the shot and risk of leukemia and give them the drops. Get a perscirption from your ped Dr so you have proof so you can show them if they do take the LO that there is no need for the shot sense they have already been given an adequate amount of vit K!

I would think CPS has a lot more serious cases on ther hands then a parents refusal of vit K!

They sent a social worker to the hospital who asked us a bunch of questions concerning every aspect of our family. She was in and out talking with her supervisor. She was very serious about taking the baby from us, giving him the shot, and then we could go to court to get him back.

We asked about an oral form. Nobody had thought to give us the choice. Come to find out all they did was put the contents of the shot into a syrup for oral dosing. It was ridiculous!

We had to be subjected to an in home visit and now we have a file with CPS. Lovely.

My advice:

1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER let your baby leave your/your partner's sight ever, ever, ever...ever. For any reason.
2. Don't live in NY (or WVa or Mississippi)

I was lucky my hospital said "oh, no thighs and eyes" when I talked to them about no hep b, k, or eye goop. Pretty progressive.

Oh God I want to throw up.....I made the grave mistake of letting my baby sleep in the nursery (and be given formula) because I was so tired I was on the verge of mental collapse. I had a very difficult labor and birth and had been awake for 72 hours with no sleep. I was desparate and I let them talk me into taking the baby to the nursery. I had intended to room in the entire time but I guess sleep deprivation clouded by judgement. I did decline the hep B (I let them talk me into vit K because I had a hard labor ending in c-section) but i always wonder what may have been done without my knowledge. I pray nothing. I would never forgive myself

Well they would have to tell you if they did the hep B. If they did, they would assume you are going to continue with the rest of the shots. The rest of the hep B schedual depends on whether your child got the shot at birth or not.
My first child was supposed to get the hep B at the hospital and they messed up and didn't (thank goodness). They sent me a letter later (or called my dr. I forget which) and let us know about the mistake. When I took her to the health department for her 2 month shots, they asked about it.
With my second and third children I just told them I wanted to skip the shot at the hospital and would get it at the 2 month shots. (doesn't mean you have to )

I'm pretty sure my baby will not be sexually active for a few years so not giving her the Hep B shot right away should be OK!
