Do hospitals let you cloth diaper?

I have always been under the assumption that they just throw their crappy Pampers or whatnot on the baby and would be upset with cloth diapering. Not that I care if they're upset, but are they "allowed"?

It may be the hospital, but it's your baby! That said, I used sposies while in the hospital--it was just easier for me. The nurses loved the cloth I put on her to take her home in, though.

My hospital actually uses cloth diapers (prefolds and covers) for their babies on the regular birthing center floor. I asked how long they had done that.. they said since the 70's lol. How awesome is that.

The NICU uses Pampers, because they have a consistent weight I guess to weigh output, but after they were done needing to weigh every diaper for my son, they brought up some cloth from the birthing floor and let us use those.

Also, even if your hospital uses sposies you could bring your own cloth, I doubt they could stop you from putting your diaper on your baby, yk? And I don't see why they would mind..

Scottish Rite in ATL allows cloth.

The hospitals here use cloth diapers themselves.

At the hospital I work at they provide Pampers and Huggies, but since babies room in it doesn't matter at all what diapers they have on.

Our hospital didn't care - the baby nurse who was handling meconium issues with DS didn't even question us about it (DH handed her the dipe and asked her to put him in it), but she had a bit of trouble actually getting it on him. When he was brought over to me a couple of minutes later, the diaper was sticking out of the cover all around. Even though he was born at the more naturally-minded hospital in a town where a lot of people CD, I guess most folks don't worry about it in the hospital.

I actually gave the baby nurse a cloth diaper to put on Lucius when he was born so he the first diaper he ever wore was a cloth one. All of the nurses complimented me on the diapers we brought.

Is it hard to get the meconium out of cloth? I didn't start using them until my last DD was 6 months (didn't know better).

Our hospital used cloth until recently, when they were pretty worn out and they didn't replace them (I think because most parents actually didn't LIKE the cloth). Even though the hospital now uses disposables, the nurses are familiar with cloth and I don't think they'll even blink at me bringing cloth diapers.

I brought cloth with me and no one said a thing I found it easier to tell/count wet diapers with cloth than with sposies. The nurses noticed the ease of use as well!

I don't even know how they'd know.....the nurses put the first diaper on, but after that it's you and partner/spouse's job. I've learned with hospitals...if you don't want a "no" answer....just don't ask them.

I gave the nurses a seventh generation disposable to use when my DS was born. They didn't have a problem and said that had seen some of these. That said, I sincerely believe that they would have had a problem with cloth, not that they could have done anything about it. And I would have done it anyway if I wanted. (They loved me *sarcasm* at the hospital by the way)

We didn't bring cloth to the hospital, but all diaper changes after the first diapering were our responsbility, so I don't even think they would have known/noticed if we swapped out for cloth. The only one who even undressed him to any degree was our ped, when she was evaluating him for release.

The hospital here wouldn't have cared, but we used sposies and left early. (He only wore 3 diapers the whole time we were there.)

your baby, your paying the bill.
take your cloth.

I agree, it's your baby and if you want to bring and use cloth, you can.

My mom was the nurse manager for mother and baby for many years and for a while she was able to get the hospital to provide cloth diapering-- with a service that washed them. Eventually, though, probably for financial reasons, they went back to the free Pampers.

The hospital I delivered my youngest ds at said in all the paperwork that they would cloth diaper only and you were welcome to bring your own diapers, disposable or cloth, if you so chose.

That's how it was for us.
