Time for Spring Cleaning! - Page 2

On Monday I am renting a cargo van [we only have a little civic] and I will be getting rid of trash! we will also load up the recycling on trip #2, and then a load of stuff to goodwill. [insert sound of angel choir here]:

We're moving soon, too! We've been looking since fall but still haven't found anything. I'm reeeeally hoping we're out of this place by the beginning of summer.

okay, we're home from vacation now so i'm ready to get started! this weekend is devoted to my mt. everest of laundry from our trip and grocery shopping/getting ready to get "back to normal" (meaning spring break is almost over!). so starting monday i'm hoping to work on my house room by room to get the "winter blah" cleaned out and get ready for warmer weather ahead!

this is the plan!

Today I washed the windows inside and out (not the top floor, though) and picked up the entire back yard of debris (tons of sticks and pine cones from the wind). Raked it too, plus bark. Pruned the roses. DH emptied and cleaned the pond. We had such a good time, we grilled steaks and put a blanket down and ate dinner outside.

You can do it! I still have a bit of the blahs, it doesn't help that it's still below freezing here. Hoping for a warm-up soon so it feels like spring!

okay, so we woke up to about an inch of snow this morning! UGH! i thought it was spring! makes it hard to "get going" and not just want to hibernate for the day! lol!

i will be starting my spring cleaning today, although i'm not sure how much i'll get done as i have a few errands to run this afternoon and have an appointment to get our honda odyssey in for an oil change......light came on our way home from florida and now it's flashing at me like it means business! lol!

BUT..... i am starting!

nak

yesterday was a beautiful day! all the windows were open and we washed all the walls and tackled the kitchen as our April room challenge. I also vacuumed and cleaned our living room furniture.

i have now given away ninty percent of my clothing, shoes, books, etc.
i am going to only own things i love or need. not things just for things sake. or decoration because i think i "need" it.

Did it! Rented the cargo van, took a bunch of nasty stuff [not recyclable] to the dump, a bunch of recyclables to the facility, and got 15 bales of pine straw for the yard [not a declutter thing, but good anyway!]

Hooray! I feel productive!

Ladies, you are inspiring me. We are getting our roof re-done and we have to get everything out of the garage. I need to go through what we have out there and organize it. If we can't fit it in the little storage shed out back we don't need to keep it. (I feel rather lame that we have a garage full of storage and a shed full of storage given that we are two adults and one baby.)

Yesterday, I dusted, rearranged and cleaned our bedroom (except the closet!!!). Today I cleaned our bathroom, including getting under the sink and tossing old stuff and rearranging. All tidy!

Today, we went out to get shelves for DD's closet. We just finished putting them up. Now, she and I are going to rearrange all her toys in bins and put them on the shelves. It will be much easier for her to clean her own room now! I suspect this will take us the rest of the afternoon, however. So my own closet must wait til tomorrow.

Happy cleaning, ladies!

I'm working on my bedroom right now. It's been my laundry dumping ground and over-all clutter central. Our pack & play is full of laundry right now. Ugh. I need to sort through it and donate some, put others away & throw out things that are just too stained/ripped, etc.
It's a huge project.

The other day I did some serious work on the kitchen as part of the April room challenge - cleared off the top of the fridge and cabinets, cleaned the microwave and cart, wiped down the ceiling and walls, and went through the cabinets under the sink and got rid of a big bag full of old cookware.

Today? I did nothing. And it was delightful.

Here's what I'm tackling:

1. The Linen Closet in the Bathroom
2. My clothes closet
3. The Girls' clothing bins
4. The Baby's clothing bins
5. The Girls' closet
6. The Baby's closet
7. My Filing Cabinet
8. Storage Shed
9. Closet under the stairs
10. Coat Closet in the Hall

My goal is to get stuff OUT of my house. I don't want to clean it, I don't want to store it.

I've created a purgatory space in the basement next to my desk.

This is where I'm putting everything that is going out of my house until I can make the trip to take it.

I have a "Goodwill" box, a library return bag, a freecycle box, an ebay/Craig's list box, and a place for diaperswappable diapers.

Things I'm trashing don't need to be in purgatory. They go straight to the curb.

I need you guys to keep me motivated to get this stuff moving out of purgatory. Once it gets there, sometimes it stays.

But not this time!

Today I cleaned out both cars (trunk too) and vacuumed them thoroughly.

Then the dog and I organzied half of the garage. We still had about 5 boxes unpacked so those got a home. I also moved some stuff around on the shelving so everything got grouped and assigned new homes. I need to take a Value Village trip tomorrow!

YEA!

My girls' bedroom is now done! It took nearly 8 hours and a trip to Tuesday Morning and Bed, Bath & Beyond for closet organizers, but it's done. As well as the toy and book zone in the living room. Tomorrow I will take on the coat closet, the girls' art supplies and make headway on my son's bedroom. Once these are done it's just my last random pile in my bedroom to take care of. The steady stream of Freecycle continues. It feels GREAT! I have tons of things to tag for a kids' consignment sale at the end of the month, so the garage and shed will have to wait until May, but at least our living spaces are nearly decluttered--at least Round 1. I plan to do a second sweep later this summer to be more ruthless in the decluttering process. I think I'm FINALLY learning that it's a process. It's not something that will happen in just one weekend.

I started on the girls' room last night, ahave a HUGE pile of clothes to get rid of. I still have the closet to do yet too, but I should be done today with all of it.

I didn't start the coat closet yet, but that's next. Whoa. That one will be a ton of fun .
