peeing

Do I need to instruct my 3 year old to pull back his foreskin when he pees? Could trapped urine under the foreskin cause irritation, especially if he doesn't pull it back to clean it in the bathtub? It does retract at least partially, enough to see the head and then some skin above it. I'm not sure if it will retract more or not, I have no experience with this. Jamie.

It isn't necessary to do that. Some guys do some don't it's a personal preference thing. I do but it depends on the situation. Also, there isn't really any problem with trapped urine either that I've ever noticed mainly because there virtually is none.

No, it really does not matter if urine passes under the foreskin. Urine is sterile and helps the separation process. Actually instructing him to pull it back now would actually potentially introduce bacteria. You also don't need to worry about pulling it back to clean at this point. When he is older (puberty) he can retract himself and rinse with water only.

My son balloons, this is when the foreskin is separated but the opening is still very narrow. This is a normal phase of development that some boys go through. Urine passes under his entire foreskin every single time he pees. The only time it bothered him was when the glands freshly separated and were still raw.

If your son has some parts that are just now separating then it could sting a bit initially. This will go away within a couple days and you can have him pee in a cup of water until then.

Just concentrate on aim and don't worry about retraction. I have discovered with boy that peeing on the potty doesn't always mean peeing in the potty.

DS does like to pull back slightly when he's on the potty, but I never suggested it to him. I only remind him to make sure it is pointing down into the potty.

My PT'd 2 yr old doesn't pull his back and it's been fine. It's unlikely that it will get trapped. Pee is liquid and would just trickle out, no?

he hasn't been pulling back his foreskin when he has been peeing in diapers, and that has been fine, right?
penises are perfectly ok as they aome. msot of the problems occur when people start messing with them

I literally LOL'd at this... some stuff is just so obvious it isn't even thought of. At least I never did :-)

Our two sons have never retracted to pee as far as I know. No problems.

BTW, they are in high school now, so I have not seen what they do for a number of years. But they have never had a problem as far as I know.

toilet paper

Does he need to use toilet paper to wipe it off or can he just shake it off?
I've never used toilet paper and I don't know many who do. Though I do have one European friend who lives here who I've noticed always goes for the stall (as opposed to a urinal) and I am pretty sure uses toilet paper but I've never inquired about it. I suppose it would be a personal preference thing but I've never found it to be necessary.

My DS shakes it and so does every grown up I know... I do know 2 people with toddlers that have taught theirs to use TP though.

Is the guy short? I know of a short guy who doesn't reach the adult urinal, but doesn't want to use the childrens urinal (being an adult.)
