Have any of you used this detergent on your cloth diapers before?

I was on hyenacart.com yesterday and ran across this woman who makes this cloth diaper detergent. Her shop name is Crunchy Clean. I read some great reviews of her stuff on diaperpin.com and I was considering buying some. Have any of you used her detergent on you diapers before? If so, did it clean them nicely?

I have her detergent. It's OK. I don't feel it works any better or worse than the other detergent's I've tried.

It is very popular on another board I am on (the nest). The maker is a poster on that board so.... it got reallt popular there.

Some people looooooove it, a few don't think it quite does the job. I personally looked into it but I oculd get Country Save for a lot cheaper on Amazon, so I went with that.

I use it and I like it a lot....I get it scented though...I have hard water and I do have to use twice the suggested amount on a large load. I like it because it leaves absolutely NO residue at all...even when I use double the amount I could totally skip the extra rinse I do on them. I've used quite a few other detergents and I could never get all the soap out it seemed....

I use pockets (FB's and BG 3.0's) and the poopy inserts still stain but they dont stink...I don't care about stains...as long as they are clean.

I make my own using the same ingredients. SOO cheap! I like it a lot. It seems to get stains out a lot better.

Recipe?

22oz washing soda (sodium bicarbonate)
7 1/2 oz baking soda
8oz oxi clean free
10-15 drops of EO or FO

I put mine in the blender to mix it up and kind of make the powder fine. 1tbps per load does the trick in my top loader but I have no idea for a FL machine. It last a long time too.

What is EO or FO? Essential Oils...?

EO= essential oil, FO= fragrance oil

Just curious...did you mean washing soda OR sodium bicarb because they're not quite the same thing.

Sodium bicarb is baking soda...effective for odor control but not sufficient (IMHO) for washing dipes.

Sodium CARBONATE is washing soda and I believe this is the ingredient that's in RLR laundry treatment...though they don't actually list ingredients.

I use baking soda and bac-out in my diaper pail and *occasionally* use RLR for smell build-up otherwise I use salt and soapnuts for washing dipes.

soap nuts & salt

I bought soap nuts but do you really add salt to them? Why?

Thx!

Hi,

Well, a while ago I got so fed up w/deterg (I've been cd'ing over the course of 8 yrs and I have tried EVERY deterg in the book) that I decided to try washing dipes w/out it. Salt is a natural disinfectant and I figured I'd see how it works in the wash. I use bac-out as a pre-treatment and I've found that this along w/plain old salt in very hot water gets dipes clean w/out a whole bunch of extra rinsing. THEN I discovered soapnuts and I now add these to the wash. They make everything softer and fluffier!

So you probably don't need the salt but I think it gives the wash an extra punch and it's good for disinfecting when your LO has a yeast infection. I make the liquid soapnut "deterg" by boiling the soapnuts in a pan and I did try adding salt to the water BUT I think this prevents/impedes the saponins from the soapnuts from being released...I just didn't get as many bubbles

HTH a little!

So you boiled the soapnuts and put the liquid and nuts in a bag or...? Can you also throw the soapnuts in with the salt in the washer?

I've tried Crunchy Clean and Simply Clean. Neither seemed to really get dipes and clothes as clean as Tide, Planet, etc. The scents don't stay after drying. I went back to Planet and just use scented wool dryer balls.

Didn't work for us. I still use Country Save.

Yes, I just boil a couple of cups of soapnuts in a large cauldron of water for about 30 mins and this makes a "detergent". Then you use this as you would any other detergent. You don't need to put anything in the bag if you use this method! Then I add salt and the soapnuts liquid to the wash. Boiling releases the saponins (the stuff that makes it soapy looking). Using soapnuts in a bag didn't work as well for me. AND if you're going to use soapnuts in a bag I would probably not use salt because I *think* the salt inhibits the release of the saponins.

Have you tried Bare Naked laundry detergent? I've never used the Crunchy Clean but I have used the Bare Naked on my kids clothing and it cleans them really well (have yet to use it on diapers)

Here is a link for the laundry powder:

and here is a link to the other cleaners. Her Miraclean is AWESOME!! I know Jen from Diaper Swappers and she is also local to me, so I've met her and spoken on the phone w/ her once before. She's super sweet.

I will be doing a co-op in a few weeks for her stuff on DS if you are intersted in trying!
