7lbs 13 oz (a relief after his 9lb sister!)

Ok, so, I left the office at 6pm Wednesday (March 25) evening, thinking I'd have at least the next week to spend with my daughter and finish getting things ready. Fortunately, there wasn't anything I *needed* except for batteries for the camera!

I woke up with cramps and went to the bathroom to pee about 3 times in 20 minutes or so. When the cramps felt like bad abdominal pains, but weren't producing anything in the toilet, it occurred to me I could be in labor. I immediately went into denial as I had absolutely no interest in or plans for birthing on Thursday.

I decided to keep track of the contractions, though. Within the hour they went from 15 minutes apart to 5/6 minutes apart. I called my mom and told her I thought this was it. I cried a little, too, saying I didn't want to have a baby today.

Then I woke up my husband and told him I thought I was in labor.

I called my midwife at about 6:30. She said she would take it as a heads up call.

The contractions kept coming. They were nothing like my back labor. I wanted my back labor back! I knew what those pains felt like and how to manage them. Regular labor sucked! I felt like I never really got a chance to get my head in the game because 1) I was in denial, 2) I was in denial and 3) I was in denial!

I called my midwife back at 7:30 and told her she needed to come now.

Meanwhile, I'd called my cousin and aunt and told them I thought this was it. The contractions were about 3 minutes apart.

It was very hard to breath through these contractions, as they just kept coming. I had only about a half hour warning before I was in active labor.

I decided to take a shower. I couldn't even wash a body part before I was back on my knees to get through the contraction. I mostly labored on my knees. Walking felt out of the question. While in the shower, my dd came in and asked what was wrong. I told her the baby was coming today. Shortly, my husband came in. Let me tell you, my little labor coach took over. She told my husband to leave, that she was taking care of mommy. She sounded very firm and sure of herself. It was amazing. When he didn't leave right away, she told him, "Go!" She's 3, mind you. He and I got a good giggle out of that.

When I really started moaning once I was out of the shower, she would call out to my husband and say, "Papi, mommy needs you!"

At about 8:15, I called my midwife to ask how far away she was. I really needed her. She was just blocks away.

She arrived a few minutes later. My aunt and cousin had arrived. My cousin was thankfully keeping my daughter engaged. She was so excited she was jumping up and down in front of me at one point. That was the only time I yelled at her to stop.

After checking the baby's heart rate and watching me through a couple of contractions on my knees. She asked if I would take the next couple on the toilet. It's just across the hall from our bedroom. I think I felt like bearing down on the second contraction. While on my hands and knees, I thought my water had broken. There was a little puddle. Very small. I figured it was either that or I'd peed a little! Well, my m/w had me stand up after taking maybe 2 contractions on the toilet. She had me lean on my husband and squat a little for the next one. I heard a loud "pop!". That was my water breaking - and a gush. I thought maybe I'd torn something terrible! Next thing I know, there's his head. Two more pushes and he was out!

If you count delivery of the placenta, labor was 4.5 hours start to finish. Otherwise, 4 from first contraction to baby. He arrived 40 minutes after my midwife did.

My husband still can't believe how fast he got here! Neither can I!

We're so happy and blessed to have him here whole and healthy. The sibling jealousy is in full force and we're trying to deal with that.

He had his follow up visit on Saturday and he's only lost 5 ounces. We went to his pedi yesterday and he's holding steady at 7lbs 8 oz. He's nursing like a champ!

Oh, yes - he was due April 5. So, he came at 38 wks 4 days.
