Newborn Diaper

Hi everyone!

I've been cloth diapering for almost a year now; started when my son was 10 months old. I am pregnant and due in July and need help picking out a newborn stash.

I use FB and Tiny Tush Elite (one size snap....LOVE THEM). I used to use BG but stopped...not a fan.

Anyway, my question is---how should I stock up for the new baby?

Thanks in advance!

There are so many options!! Do you know what type of system you're looking for?

Many people favor pf's for nb's because they are so versatile and because babies go through so darn many dipes. I'm due in Aug and plan to use a combo of pf's and fitteds. I like that fitteds add an extra barrier between the ebf poop and the outside world! I might use a few aio's for those moments in the night when I can't open my eyes.

Any certain fibers/fabrics you like or don't like? How about snaps, aplix, snappiable, etc?

As much as I love FB on my DS now, prefolds were the way to go for an infant. You change the ALL DAY! I couldn't afford enough of something else. Fot me, I never had a blowout.

I've used fuzzi bunz exclusively, but for my first venture CD'ing a newborn this fall, I plan on doing prefolds and covers. The low cost is the biggest thing to me since I really only need them to last until my stash of 18 small fuzzi bunz start fitting well-- and it seems like mamas really are a fan of prefolds at the beginning.

I agree with prefolds. I LOVE prefolds on my newborn. I also have some kissaluv 0s and xs thirstie fab fitteds when I want quicker on and love those too.

I'm personally going with 24 prefolds, 12 kissaluvs size 0, 4 wool covers, 3 fleece covers, and 3 PUL covers, and 6-12 Bum Genius one size AIOs for my lazy husband to use

I would like to use prefolds but have no clue about how to go about using them. Do you reuse the diaper covers and just wash the prefold itself? How often do you wash the covers? I'm so confused...sorry if these questions are silly!!!

Thanks!

Here is a great website about prefolds http://www.diaperpages.com/

Yes, you reuse the covers (unless they are stinky or dirty). Covers are washed depending on their materiel. If it's fleece or PUL, I just throw them in with the diapers. If it's wool, I either hand washed or I washed them in the washing machine on the "handwash" setting with cold water and a cold rinse.

I have been researching NB diapers for my next babe, as I started CDing my daughter at about 3 months old. I am going to use prefolds and fitteds along with Bummis covers and homemade recycled wool covers.
Kissaluvs size 0 and NB Muttaqin Baby fitted diapers are what I've heard are the best fitteds for a newborn. Orange-edge prefolds from greenmountaindiapers.com are sized just right for newborns. A typical newborn stash consists of about 3 dozen diapers (combo of prefolds and fitteds as you choose) and at least 6 NB covers.

While I *know* prefolds are easiest for an infant, I'm seriously debating AIO's for the very very early days when pretty much every cover gets poop on it. Is that ridiculous as far as cost?

DH can weild a Snappi like any pro-cloth diapering mother anymore, so I dunno, he'd be a lot more help than he was when DD was born!

I like prefolds & covers. I used the GMD orange ones for newborn (they didn't have the larger size I might have gone for those), and thirsties extra small & then small covers.

I had originally looked at purchasing GMD periwinkle prefolds for the babe due in Oct, but they're no longer carrying them, so now I've been looking at unbleached Indian prefolds from http://little-lions.com/ because 1. the infant size seems to fit a bigger range than the GMD orange ones, and 2. they're cheaper. But since I know how much people LOVE GMD prefolds, I haven't completely ruled them out. I guess I'm just afraid the orange ones won't fit very long since I anticipate an 8 to 8-1/2lb baby. What size was your baby at birth, and how long do you anticipate the orange prefolds fitting?

It might be too late, but GMD had a few doz. of the unbleached periwinkle prefolds that they were selling under their "seconds" page because of low stock a few days ago (I ordered 1 doz. to round out my stash, so I have 12 orange edge, 12 periwinkle, and 23 yellow edge). I'm afraid they're only down to 1 doz. this morning though, but if that's helpful you could rush to the website!
