Only Stinky In Pail???

Why are my diapers only stinky once they sit in the pail for a little bit?? I wash every other day (about) and have posted multiple times about my stink issues. Most of our issues seem to be solved except the pail yuckies. We keep them in an unlined pail with a loose fitting lid, and when I go to dump them into the washer they REEK!! I am working on moving to natural fibers (I have a feeling our hard water is making synthetics an issue) but what do I do about this for now???

Might want to sprinkle some baking soda. It's just because the lot of them are sitting there.

When it's time to wash, my dipes have a reeking ammonia smell too. As long as they don't stink while they are ON the baby, that's all that matters to me.

I will try the baking soda... they really don't smell on DS, I mean his morning diaper doesn't smell great but I'm assuming that any piece of material with pee on it isn't going to smell yummy or anything, right?

Any other thoughts on this? The diapers really don't smell coming off DS (that I notice anyway) but DH keeps complaining about the pail smell (which I also don't really notice) but yeah... is he just being whiney?

Also, I don't know if this is relevant but we just use a loose lidded trash can with no liner, I wipe out the pail everytime i do wash.

Honestly, I think it's normal. If you take anything that's been peed on (especially a whole bunch of diapers!) and throw it in a covered container for a day or two, it's going to be stinky. I think that's just the nature of it. I just don't breathe very deeply when I open the lid or put them in the wash machine!

As long as you aren't getting funky odors on your child, I wouldn't worry. Baking soda may help, or deo disks.

That is kind of what I figured... I might try some of the disks though because DH complaining about it is annoying!!
