old-school gamers? post here?

I'm not sure if there's someplace else on MDC more appropriate for this question or not, but...

Anyone here used to be (or currently is) an avid Super Mario Bros. and/or Yoshi's Island fan?

If so, what video games would you recommend that are similar to that formatting/type of game? I'm tired of playing Dr. Mario and Big Brain Academy, but most video games out these days just don't appeal to me. I tried Kingdom Hearts, but I'm not terribly thrilled with it. I'm not a Zelda type.

Help? Thanks.

have you tried loco roco for PSP, super mario sunshine for GameCube, I'm sorry you aren't a zelda type, thats lame, I <3 some zelda, you should give twilight princess for the Wii a try, its pretty great.

there is also yoshis island DS and super mario 64 ds that are very very close to the origional 64 games, but are a bit harder, and have some updated fun!

Also, cake mania held my attention for a second, which I didn't expect.

I work in a game store, you can PM me if you think of something else.

Thanks for replying.

I haven't heard of loco roco. I don't have a PSP and don't want one, but I'll look to see if it's available for other systems.

Cake Mania sounds ridiculous. I'm going to look that up!

I was a HUGE Mario Bros fan. I miss it. I want to play it like it was, on the original NES, with the 8 bit cartridge.

Anyway, try Little Big Planet. It's a platformer, and you jump and grab coins and stuff, so it's similar in that regard. It's pretty fun!

Those are my favourite games.

Have you tried Spyro the Dragon? The first few games are very Mario like, but 3D. Fire at bad guys, collect gems, rescue buddies, etc. They were great. PS1

PacWorld "Pacman" is good. It's an adventure game. 3D platform jumping, thingy collecting, powerpellets, etc. PS1

Maximo I and II are both good. PS1

Warioland SHAKE IT is very old school, SIDE-Scrolling, for the Wii.

Paper Mario for the Wii is supposed to be good, but I haven't tried it.

You can always buy one of those controller sets from the mall kiosks that have like, 80 ANCIENT SCHOOL games on them. I'm talking Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, Paperboy, Double Dragon, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks for these suggestions! We love Paper Mario. I haven't tried those arcade game thingies b/c they seem cheap.

they are cheap.

Much better: the Wii now has a "virtual console" with DOZENS of great games that you can download (all legal, from the actual Nintendo site) and PLAY on your Wii!

I just discovered this and I am planning on getting them ASAP. I have a landed highspeed line, so I am buying an adapter for it, but
if you have wireless you won't need any special stuff.

They have lots of SEGA MASTER SYSTEM games along with NES, SNES, Saturn, Turbo Grafix 16, etc. I can't believe the list they are offering. I can't wait to play WONDER BOY again.

Wow.
