I understand. I already told crystal my story but really there are only two options in town. the GK people are mean and rude and nasty but not high unlike my experience at BPU... so....

that sucks! You know I never actually went into GK but my Husband did many times and he never got a tattoo. I think h is reasons were probably the same as yours. He WONT get a tat in a place sends out vibes like that.

Why not save your money and come down to Anchorage? LOL

I found a great shop here, brand new! called the Inked Monkey. They are awesome! Really.

If I wait until I come down to Anchorage, I'd go back to Dragon Ray's. They did my last piece, which while I have reservations about how much I like the custom design after all these years, they did amazing work -- the colors are still as vibrant now 8 yrs later as they were when I got it, and they were awesome guys in general.

juneau or tenakee eh? those are pretty darn different!! I've been living in PElican (rural like Tenakee Springs is) for the last two years, so while I've never been to tenakee, I can probably answer questions about rural life... It's an exciting life, we have just found that it wasn't the way we wanted to raise our kids, so we're moving to the Anchorage area this summer.

Yup, DH has officially turned in his resignation to the school here, so we are without question moving this summer. I never really doubted it, but we've made the irreversible step now, you know? He'll be at the job fair in anchorage in two weeks, so if you pray or send out good karma or whatever, we'd appreciate all those things helping him to get a job for us up there.

That is good! I have heard good things about them as well.
It really is a lot about the whole shop atmosphere.

Anyone know of any good deals on pregnancy tests? I am certain I must have the flu, but we have been ttc.. I can't possibly be having morning sickness THIS early, but I guess it seems ok to stock up on some things I know I will be needing soon, anyway..

Yay! Now you just need to move near me so we can walk together this summer.. (hoping I get to be pregnant soon, and will be walking a lot!)

sounds good to me!!
Our ideal (well, my ideal) is in the valley, which could be a bit distant for walking... but frankly we'll take a job and go from there. So you put a bug in your principals ear about DH and see if we don't move in near you.

um, google 'cheap pregnancy test' and tehre are a dozen places, including some that ship to alaska
When DH was in town he just brought me home a 3pack from someplace...probably walmart (I boycott them, him, not so much, ) I only needed one, but I took another one a week later anyway, cuz the first one was kinda faint. I've still got one, but given the total lack of medical help out here, I'm keeping it around in case I have a miscarriage scare... I've had too many of those to not be a little paranoid.

That's funny, but smart. My mom survived the '64 earthquake and we always ran to the nearest doorjam (sp?).
Yeah I jump out of bed & head to the doorjamb w/kids, too.

The funniest story I've heard was a teacher who was in the restroom for the '64 and rode it out ON the seat--holding tight.
