we are remodeling our bathroom and i want to put in a deep soaking tub to birth in next time (and enjoy any other time!) trouble is i dont know what size, shape, depth it should be. help! i need to decide this soon and i have spent a long time online trying to figure it out, to no avail..oh and the home depot guy looked at me like i grew two heads when i asked!

Gosh, that would be deeper than just about any bathtub I've seen. The birth tub my midwife brought over was really big when she set it up, more the size of a hot tub than a bathtub.

Is a corner bathtub an option? Have you seen the ones that have like a little seat in the corner and are supposed to be big enough for 2 people? That is like what the waterbirths on House of Babies were in. Oh, how I want a bathtub like that......

Japanese tubs

You could also look into a Japanese soaking tub (ofuro). They are much deeper than US versions. A friend of mine had one put in her bathroom and it's lovely. When she sits in it the water covers her shoulders. You'll have to hunt around though, as the diameters are usually small.

Sounds heavenly though..good luck with your tub hunt!

i have seen photos of the japanese soaking tubs. they look liike getting into one in labor might be a little difficult for me

i wish i could fit a corner one in, but the shape of the space dosnt allow it. i found one Kohler tub called tea party for two, or something like that. it looks deep.
does anyone know how deep a fishy pool is???
