cloth diapering is so easy!

All the research while pregnant paid off-- this is so easy!

I had a newborn stash of kissaluvs size 0, prowraps covers, wool shorts and longies, xs fuzzibunz, preston pants pockets, thirsties AIOs, and prefolds.

I can't stand the prefolds, covers, or kissaluvs. They just soak right through and he's miserable in them wet (yes, I change him right away, but not if he's peeing while nursing!).

I LOVE the xs FB and PP and thirsties! They hold in the BF poops so well and they can take a lot of pee with a microfiber insert, and he pees soooo much at once. The FB are so easy to clean. The thirsties AIOs take longer to dry, but when i finish all the other diapers I just turn the thirsties inside out so the microfiber is showing, then leave them on top of the washer and the next load of laundry i do i throw them in the dryer with them so i'm not wasting electricity.

Washing is so easy-- swish in toilet, cold rinse, hot wash with charlies, cold rinse. they come out clean!

it's just surprising me how easy it is!

we have to wash every other day b/c I don't like using half of my stash... but it's still worth it! and mysmall stash is all pockets and AIOs, and he's already 10 lbs 4 oz at 10 days old so i'm sure i'll get there soon!

That is great that it is going so well : I think most folks don't realize just how easy cd'ing really is!

Congrats on the positive experience.
I don't think most people realize how easy it is.

Sion has a great b-day! we are only 45 years apart. LOL Enjoy that new little person!

I agree! I just started (today was our first day) and I can't believe how easy it is! We even went out and about running errands and had no problems! I have 4 kids and if I knew how easy it was I'd have been cding all along!

I am using indian prefolds with thirsties, and bummis whisper wraps. I love them!

Glad you are enjoying your CDs

Yay! So glad you are enjoying it so much.

I actually loved my kissaluvs for my nb - that just goes to show you that you have to try stuff for yourself and not put too much stock in reviews.

Glad you are liking it. I had the opposite experience with my heavy-wetting dd - I preferred the pfs and Kissaluvs, and didn't use the pockets and AIOs much (dh used them.)

now i jinxed myself and my thirsties are leaking and my friend put my wool soaker through the wash and ruined it.

I don't understand about the kissaluvs and prefolds-- they wet completely and when he's sleeping i have no way of knowing he's wet and it irritates his skin. how do other people get around that? im experimenting with a tri fold prefold in an a better world cover right now.

Well, some new babies just pee a ton and you have to change them every hour for a month or so. That is how my dd was. I just kept changing her and eventually she slowed down her peeing.

Just being wet shouldn't irritate him. What detergent are you using?

Once you get started, it really is easy. :

Altair thank you for sharing your positive experience. I'm still researching the whole CD thing and it seems overwhelming mostly because I never had experience with people around me CDing. Where I come from (Greece) people use Pampers and that's it. Thanks again. I have decided to CD, it's just I don't know which types of diapers to buy for a newborn.

I would buy a bunch of different things for your newborn stash... some fitteds, some prefolds, some AIOs and maybe a few pockets too. Just to see what you like! Dipes have good resale value, especially if you buy things to try and don't like them!!

Chely! That's what I'm going to do!

I agree it is so easy! I don't know what all the fuss is about. So many of my friends and family think its so hard! The " hardest" part about it is putting the inserts into the other cover ( FB and BG) and that's not even hard, it just takes 10 minutes!!

Easy!

Ok, totally out of the blue, but having systemic yeast/thrush can make babies HATE being wet, because the urine feeds the yeast and stings (like breastmilk does on nipples if mom has nipple thrush). It is most common to get this is you had abx during labor, or ate lots of carbs during pregnancy.

I wish someone had told me that sooner with my DD, so I just wanted to throw that out there. Might not apply at all.

I'd agree about it being easy, but having to rinse them out in the sink while ds3 screams (because I'm not holding him those couple minutes) is really making me wonder if it's worth it.

I know he's not yeasty-- we just saw a IBCLC and our wonderful family doctor.

I think he's just sleeping so long even with the fleece he's getting his skin wet. he's a huge baby and he eats a LOT at a time and then sleeps for a long time. So we end up sleeping really long stretches at night and he gets wet. I want to do more naked time with him, but he hates it!

I love that you love cloth diapering. I also like your username. And I think it's funny that you like the opposite of the diapers that I liked.

Altair - I think some babies are just sensitive to wet skin. So when you can't change regularly (like naps or at night), you could try putting a fleece liner in there. You can buy them or just cut some fleece from Joann's to fit in your dipe. That's helps my ds.

Devaskyla - If you LO is ebf, you don't really have to rinse the dipe. It can go in the wash as is and the poo will just disolve. Really. Might make life a little easier? And even though my ds is older and isn't laying there screaming, I often just set his poopy dipes on the back of the toilet and deal with them later once he is sleeping or occupied. You don't have to do it right that second... Just my 2 cents!

He is EBF & I'd love to be able to do that, but I've done one load & everything stained really badly. Going to try some different detergent next time. The machines probably aren't very good & I can only do one wash/one rinse (apartment laundomat, so I have to pay) so that probably doesn't help.

Sorry to take your thread ot, Altair. Even with this staining, rinsing thing it's a lot easier than I was expecting. And I use prefolds with covers I made.
