Tell me about Goodmamas

Ok, my son is turning out to really soak his diapers. We're using fuzzibunz with the microfiber insert plus a hemp or bamboo insert...lasting 2-3 hours. I'm worried that as he gets bigger and sleeping longer (he's 2 months old) the pee will become more unmanageable. Someone recommended Goodmamas to me, but they are soooo expensive, especially when you have to get covers too!
I want to hear their pros and cons from mamas who have used them. I do hate scrambling to get something; I'd much rather just order it, or go to a store and buy it. I don't want to have to lurk on DS or some other FSOT to find a diaper unless it's magical, kwim?
Thanks mamas!

I think GM's are pretty overrated unless you're really into the hard-to-find one-size scene. IMO, something like terry Peewells are going to give you better capacity the bigger your baby gets. Since GM's are one size, they absorb the same for a small as they do for a large and you also risk being stuck with a one-size that doesn't necessarily fit your babe very well. (though I use the term "stuck" loosely since you probably would have any trouble reselling them on spots, diaperswappers or here)

I was one of the original testers for Goodmamas as she was developing them and Suzanne is a friend of mine.

Really, of all the fitteds I have ever used (and I've used A LOT), they fit both my kids the best (despite one having chubby legs at the time and the other having thin legs), were super thick (neither of my kids ever soaked all the way through them) without being bulky, and never gapped in the legs. The version that is sold today lasts a long time too, it hasn't worn out on me yet.

They fit a wide variety of babies well and are just a great diaper all around. But they ARE expensive, because they are made in the USA and made with high quality fabrics. I say? Buy as many as you can afford.

They are no longer hard to find becuase her website is stocked pretty much all the time. The only time they might get hard to find is if you want a specific print. Her website is fully stocked with dyed velour diapers, plain velour with colored surging, "switched" velour with colored surging and different colored snaps, and even some prints.

I've not used the latest version on a newborn, but the tester version fit my newborn at the time as well as my toddler.

I really like them and they hold a ton however If you are used to wearing "real" clothes they really don't fit well under them. certianly not jeans. dd wears hers under longies knit and interlock. But if your fuzzi bunz are holding 2-3 hours unless you are out and about thats probably the longest you would want to keep him
in a diaper anyway.

Yeah, that's a problem with many fitteds including goodmamas. they are not trim diapers. I don't consider them bulky either, but they're not trim enough for most pants that were designed to go over sposies. you have to get stretchy pants (hanna anderson and gymboree make good ones) or you have to use a pocket/aio for underneath clothes like that.

I've found that they pee more as newborns than infants. My kids were really heavy wetters until 2-3 months, and then after 18 months or so. You could always try hemp in there instead of microfiber. I have a goodmama, and I like it okay. It doesn't not hold as much pee as my cricketts, piddle poddle, or dream eze diapers. They're all going to be pretty bulky but I like them anyway. Prefolds can be trim if you know how to fold well, and are more absorbent than pockets and AIO's. I change when they're wet, which is every 2 hours or so.

Personally, my kids peed more OFTEN as newborns, but peed in larger quantities and less often as toddlers. Guess every child is different? Also one of my kids for some reason will go FOREVER without peeing and then unleash, the other pees pretty often though not quite as much at a time.

I love my Goodmamas! They are lusciousm so soft, and so cute, and hold up great after lots of washings!!! Regarding the size of the cloth behind, throw on a T shirt with a pair of BabyLegs, and your baby will look totally adorable!

I also think they're overrated

My DS can pee straight through GMs and Mutts, and everything else I've tried except *toddler* pfs (he's 9mo!) and Bagshot Row Bamboo snappi'able fitteds (BSRB) (We <3 the Ultimate Fits). They are only $20 apiece instead of $35 and he can pee in these several times and the front isn't even damp. Plus they are VERY trim--his shorties fall right off of him when he has one on! For overnight we usually go through 3 sposies, but one BSRB Tucked In All Night (TIAN) will get us from 9pm-6am. Plus there is no velcro peeling/sticking, and no snap marks! It's the perfect fit every time.

Thanks, I checked it out...I don't really see the need for prints anyway, as they go under a cover. It seems hard to find used plain ones, since most mamas are into the prints. I bought a used one that arrived today (can't wait to try it after DS wakes up).

I'm sort of concerned more about nighttime; as he wakes to eat every 4 ish hours (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter), he doesn't get changed more often than that at night (I won't wake him just for a diaper)...and we've had several overflows at night with an MF plus a hemp. I can only imagine it will get worse as he gets bigger, and it's a drag to have to change my bed every day.

I got a rave review from a friend about the Bagshot Row bamboo fitteds, and will be on the lookout for one to try.

Thanks to all who replied...keep 'em coming, if you wish. I'd love to hear more!

Hard to find plain ones?

http://shop.thegoodmama.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=100

those are probably the most readily available. If you're talking about buying used, well, that's a crapshoot. You just get whatever someone bought and doesn't want anymore. I heard a lot of people sell prints cause they get tired of them or see one they want more.

I often had my baby in just a t shirt and a cute diaper when at home, especially in the summer. We even went out like that a lot

I like Goodmamas. DS is wearing one right now. But GMD toddler prefolds hold more urine, IME. And if you are good at applying prefolds, they are the most adjustable diaper available.

I've ordered 6 of them for number 2, who should be born in the coming weeks. Can anyone tell me how they fit newborns? I don't expect that they will really fit until he is a month or two old.

I meant used plain ones...seems like most moms on DS are selling girl-ish prints.

I would love to do that, but the GMs need covers, no? When I tried the used one this afternoon, the outside front was damp after about 2 hours, although the soakers still had a dry area toward the back. The fit was nice on my 12 lb boy, although I'm not crazy about the snaps touching his skin on the inside...any tricks?

Keep 'em coming mamas! Thanks.

Uh, no cloth diaper is going to be dry after two hours, goodmamas included. My kids peed every 20-45 minutes or so when they were babies.

Yes, they need a cover BUT you can go coverless when at home. Just don't put pants over the diaper or anything like that. I generally didn't have a problem with my kids soaking through their diapers, and if so it only was a bit damp on the outside and I just changed it

I never minded the snaps touching on the inside, and neither did my babies.

Most one size diapers will fit a larger newborn (8+ lbs) but will be a bit bulky on them at that age.

They are very absorbent! I really love them when they're brand spanking new--squishy OBV is irresistible! If you have the $$, buy new!

I like wool longies, bummis whisper pull ups and Thirsties for covers.

I like these dipes, they're super-soft, but I don't think they're worth $35 and I know several mamas who are having a lot of trouble with Goodmamas' customer service.
