my ergo twisted its chest strap by itself

I swear, we didn't change anything. One day, we were using it as usual, the next day, the chest strap was twisted in an impossible way. It LOOKS fine, but to get the buckle to match up, one of the straps has to twist around.

As much as I examine it, I can't figure out how it could have been twisted - or how I can untwist it - without totally undoing it and redoing it. And that doesn't look simple.

And, since an ergo shouldn't be able to spontaneously twist a strap, there ought to be a way to untwist it without getting complicated -- right?? I've just been wearing it twisted now for more than a month, but it drives me crazy and it's not so comfortable.

(disclaimer: I'm not a genious with knots, so maybe the answer is right in front of me... you tell me.)

Anyone else have a semi-autonomous ergo?

Wow, this is so hard without pictures....

So let me see if I'm getting this right: the chest strap that buckles right above your boobs? That has come around somehow so you have to twist it to get the buckle to feed into the clasp the right direction?

You might need to post pictures to clarify (do you have a photobucket or Flickr account?)

Thanks for looking at this. I am really mystified.

In this picture it is the half of the chest strap on your left, my right, that is twisted. Yes, I can turn it around and buckle it anyway, but then it is obviously backward, with the tail against my chest, so harder to adjust. Obviously, this is so unimportant in the scheme of things, but my desire to have just one thing in my life that is not crooked is making me obsess about this.

You should be able to tighten that side all the way, pulling the twisted part through the buckle just as it is (which will be a little difficult and require some heavy tugging), then once you get the twisted part pulled all the way through you can just untwist it since that's the tail, then loosen it back through.. does that make any sense to you?

I've had seatbelts do that -- so frustrating!

Can you unthread the strap? I know the end is bulky, but maybe you can force it through the buckle then re-thread it.

Or fold the strap over on itself just a bit near the buckle, and slide the buckle over that until it has righted itself. That's what I end up doing on seatbelts, though it is hard.

OK- the weirdest thing -
baby was sick and the ergo was in constant use, so I didn't try anyone's tricks til yesterday. I sat down with the ergo to follow your suggestions (having taken it off 2 hours earlier, and the strap was still twisted) -- no more twist! It untwisted itself with no help from me. I swear this thing has a life of its own.
Well, thanks anyway, and I know what thread to search if it happens again!
