I just wanted to let everyone know who is planning a waterbirth about our situation so you can avoid it happening to yourself!
I had a long labor at home, 60 hours, using my birth pool (La Bassine) for a lot of it, and then we decided to transfer. When we made the call to transfer we needed to go fast-- and we didn't even think to pump out and deflate the pool. That would have taken at least an hour.
We got a call 12 hours after our baby's birth that our neighbor downstair's ceiling was ruined and water was dripping all over. My partner had to rush home to meet my (IRATE) landlord and the damages are estimated to be in the 10s of thousands.
So... if you're using an inflatable tub, have a back up plan in case of transfer. If we had been thinking ahead of time, we could have had a friend on call with a set of our housekeys to come over and deflate it. Honestly though, I can't see myself ever using an inflatable tub again. It was a brand new tub and this should NOT have happened. The last thing a woman recovering in the hospital from a c-section needs is to be told she owes thousands and thousands of dollars because of her birth pool.

We just moved in in Oct and wanted to stay here for 2-3 years, it's the most perfect apartment in the best neighborhood and is below market rate for all the amenities. There is NO WAY I could find another apt with a W/D in this price range, which would mean I couldn't CD. We have also spent a lot of money customizing the apartment and to have to undo it after 1 year would be really disappointing. I'm sad my days here a numbered now. We literally looked at rentals for 6 months before choosing this one.
.
- that's great advice, I just wish you didn't have to learn from experience. Hopefully your insurance will cover it, I wish you a speedy recovery mama.
