Overdue - Mucus plug

Thread Starter
This is my first and I was due Mar. 21 and am now 41w 5d. I only have 2 1/2 days left to go into labor to have my baby at the birth center. I lost my mucus plug today, but there wasn't any color except white/clear. Does anyone know if this is still a good indication that I'll go into labor soon? Any suggestions for what to try? I still praying for a peaceful and preferably non-hospital birth.

with dd that was very much like mine looked. I think i lost it a week before going into labor.
When you lose it totally varies by woman. Some they go into labor soon, some lose it months before (like I did this time).

Have you tried natural ways to try to bring on labor? Sex, walking, nipple stimulation, etc? Talked to the midwifes there about trying to get you to go before your times up and can't deliver there anymore? I have my list of non evasive to evasive of what I'll try to get things going if I were to have a problem with getting things started. Just wondering if you;ve talked about it with them yet since you only have a few days left for the birthing center

Soon yes, but the meaning of soon is different for everyone. It could be today, tomorrow, next week, I can't say months from now because you are already almost 42 weeks but like Murph said, it happens! My last two pgs I've lost my mucous plug months ahead of time as well, this one I've yet to see it.

I'm sorry to say that white/clear mucus isn't much of a sign... definitely your pregnancy & maybe birth hormones are producing that cervical mucus (& that's a good thing!), but a mucus plug that is pink or blood streaked is more of an indicator that the cervix is changing (effacing/dilating). That's also called a "bloody show"

Since you're on a "time line" have you discussed taking castor oil w/ your midwives? My midwives have had good luck w/ it when a woman's body is really ready. I think they recommend 2 tablespoons blended in a chocolate peanut butter milkshake.

Good luck mama

When I was at your point, also a first timer, I had my membranes swept and we were talking about castor oil as well. Walk, walk, walk!!! Quickly. Maybe some vigorous squats wouldn't hurt, either. Spicy foods. Anything. Good luck, mama.

Oh, and have you asked your mother and your DH's mom how long their pregnancies lasted? If you do have to go to the hospital it will help explain why your pregnancy is still normal and not requiring pitocin...

Good luck!
