I'm currently cleaning my face at night with a homemade cold cream recipe from this
book. I've loved cleaning without water, as I don't feel dry and itchy anymore. However, the recipe has lanolin in it and borax, and I'm not crazy about either (the lanolin is ruining my family cloths that I wipe the cream off with, and the borax is just...yucky). Are there any other recommendations? I see to remember some discussion here about cleaning just with oil or something like that....

Perhaps not much help, but I don't wash my face at night. Nor in the morning, usually. About 3 times a month, I use a facial scrub in the shower (some apricot scrub manistream brand that I've had for years). And if I get a chance in the morning, I take a hot washcloth and rub it over my face. If I feel especially grimey, I'll do the hot washcloth at night. no soap, no cleanser, no honey...just hot water and a washcloth.

Somewhere around here is the enromously long "wash your face with honey" thread. That's all I do (a tsp or so of honey scrubbed across the face & rinsed with warm water) but like the pp, I only do that maybe once a week during the summer or every several weeks during the winter, depending on grime level
I'll come back with a link if I can find it but any search should show it!

I used to have combo facial skin. Then lately it's been dry. I thought it was pregnancy and Winter mixed. But then I started reading threads here and just stopped washing my face with any kind of product. I used to use Burt Bee's orange facial wash. But since I have stopped the dryness and combo have gone away. I still moisturize after a shower but so far that's it. I do plan on starting using some honey every once in a while.
I'm not sure if you know, but in case you don't, don't ever use a foaming face soap. It's just going to dry out your skin.

I only wash my face when I shower- every 2-3 days?
I keep a glass honey jar with maybe an inch of honey in the bottom- the jar is tall enough to keep a spoon in when capped
So, while the water is heating up, I just grab the spoon, put a little in my left hand, sprinkle a little bs on top, and hop in the shower. I wet my right hand, rub together, and scrub my face. After the shower, I put coconut oil on.
I suppose a squirt bottle would be easier, but I'm not paying for one, lol.
I have not had a single pimple since I started this!!! And I was about to give in and buy Proactive

I really expected it to be more messy than I've found it so far. I only wash my face in the shower, so that might be the key. I can imagine it being a little messy if I were doing it at the sink. I just keep a little squeeze bottle in the shower.

I wash my face with oatmeal a couple of times a week. Once in a blue moon I do an oil cleanse which is also easy to find if you search for Oil Cleansing Method.
I've gone from being very oily due to being in battle with my skin to being slightly on the dry side and with no worse spots.
Has anyone used shea butter to moisturise?

I've heard rave reviews of the oil cleansing method (http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/) but I haven't gotten around to trying it. I'm still using cetaphil - which after looking at the ingredients i'm not overly happy with. Maybe I'll try Honey first, since I always have honey at my house....

I use the water left over from rinsing rice before cooking. (google if interested- I heard about it on the internet and it seems to work well. It's also a great make-up remover)
I also use an oil/sea salt/raw sugar/honey scrub on my face in the shower. It was a gift, but it's super-expensive, which is amusing considering almost all of the ingredients can be found in the kitchen...

I've used straight honey for awhile and this worked great.
I am have been using the OCM now for maybe 9 months? So far, I my skin has been great. I used to use proactiv for a reference. I got tired though of doing it at night over the sink. It was a pain with my hair, the mess, etc.
Now I just do it in the shower in the morning. Wet hair stays back out the way, I can use as much water (and a face cloth) as I need and no mess. It leaves a small amt of oil on bottom of the tub right under my feet which rinses away before the next shower so it's not a slip hazzard for anyone else. However, I have noticed a wonderful benefit of this. The bottoms of my feet are so nice and soft with no effort!
