false alarm last night.

well, i had contractions 3-5 minutes apart...so i called the birth center....they told me to come in...so we did. and we walked. for 2.5 hours. and then laid down. and then walked some more. and nothing.

despite the fact that i was 2cm and 50% effaced last friday, the mw told me i was only 1cm and thicker last night!! WTF??? i'm closing up!!!!

so 5 hours later, we came home with our tails between our legs. i felt particularly STUPID because this is my THIRD pregnancy!! shouldn't i know by now??? *sigh*

i'm feeling so uncomfortable and a little hopeless about it. it was SO disappointing to have what i thought was labor for 5 hours only to have NO change in my cervix, which is actually closing up apparently.

so dh said that we're not gonna call the birth center again until we can see a little hand sticking out of my hooha with a thumbs up. LMAO!!!

soooo i guess i'm heading for prodromal labor land after all. *sigh*

I posted a response in the appointments thread, but wanted to say babies can play tricks...not your fault and you couldn't have known. I mean if the cx were strong enough to fool you, after you've birthed 2 other kids, they must have been something!

I know what you mean about feeling kind of stupid... With ds2 I did something similar. I ended up having early labour for almost two days, with regular contractions that just didn't seem to pick up. But, it ended two days later with ds2's birth! I hope it was just a bit early and that things will pick up again soon. I'm thinking of you!

I know this has to be so frustrating but the way you wrote your post made me and DH giggle. So thanks for the little laughter, I think we all need it. I'm so sorry about the false alarm...I had a mini panic last night that Im not sure I'm going to know this time unless my water breaks like last time...everything is sooo difffernent. Hang in there!

I had an April Fools trick played on ME too by the baby!! I was having contractions, felt hot, pooped a ton, felt like cleaning, and couldnt sleep, ALL of these things with my other pregnancies resulted in the baby being born that day.

So I feel your pain....I am not due till the 27th and have to be 37 weeks for a waterbirth, so I didnt want to be in labor.....but since all the signs were there I was just sure.

They come when they want I guess!!

Okay - I had to crack up at the little hand comment! LMBO I'm glad you have a bit of humor right now to get you thru!


As for the dilation, was it the same midwife????? Unfortunately dilation can be very dependant on the person checking it. If you were 2cm last week with the midwife 'stretching' you to 2, but the midwife didn't do that last night, then that would make the difference between 1-2.....make sense????
