gwyneth was born at 5:18 am on april 1st. they gave me 36 hrs to go into labor after my water broke, and it just wasn't happening. they were able to transfer me over to a local hospital, and i had her within 5 hours of getting there. the pitocin was HARSH. this labor was way more intense than dd1's. i ended up with an epidural. i was bummed because they wouldn't really let me walk around due to my being hooked up to the pit and antibiotics. the couple times i did get up to go to the rest room, my contractions were much much more tolerable. i think if i had more options to move with the contractions, i would have had a better shot at a natural birth. oh well. baby has dark brown hair and hazel eyes. she is breasfeeding well : . this is something i was very nervous about, as i have an inverted nipple (well, it sure isnt inverted anymore), and i did not bf dd1. i feel a bit bad about the labor and delivery, but the bfing success has made up for it. she has a tiny bit of jaundice which we will go get checked out tomorrow.

Congratulations!!! And that's fabulous about the nursing!

Leah,

I feel you on the pit. Every birth is different. While natural birth is an amazing accomplishment, I know of plenty of births where I *know* I could have done that. My first was a medically necessary induction and jeez louise that pit was rough. I don't regret my epi at all!

Congrats on the nursing and the beautiful baby! I love the name!!

Welcome Gwyneth!! :

Congrats!!! Even though it wasn't the birth you were hoping, you get to hold and nurse a beautiful baby girl! We all never know what we will do until the time comes...so don't feel bad about your choices when you were thrown into a situation you weren't planning. Enjoy your baby moon!!!!

Congratulations and welcome baby Gwyneth : I'm sorry you didn't get the birth experience that you wanted, but congratulations on the breastfeeding!!!

Congratulations! And from a mama with a few days head start on you and two slightly inverted nipples, it DOES get easier, just keep at it :

Congrats!! The pit is just awful. Probably an unmedicated c/s would be less painful! I had it with my 1st baby and it was all fine till the pit. I dont regret the epi, but I DO regret allowing them to give me pit, my water was only broken for 6 hrs!! So that is awesome that they 'let' you go 36. You gave it a valiant effort!! Congrats on your baby!!!

Congratulations! I was just wondering about you today.

I'm glad breastfeeding is going so well. I remember you asking about the inverted nipple issue. I had the same thing and breastfeeding definitely ended the inverted nipples.

I'm sorry the birth experienced wasn't exactly what you had hoped for. Please don't feel guilty about letting yourself feel disappointed or sad about it. You can be thankful for your baby and grieve parts of the birth at the same time. But, you probably know that already.

thanks everyone! i could not imagine how i could love another child as much as i love dd1 until this birth. and watching her nurse with her sweet little hand on her cheek was totally worth the crazy birth!

oh, and sort of off topic, the midwife that delivered gwyn is totally pro- co sleeping. something dh hates. she gave us a lecture today on why baby should be sleeping with me in bed, to encourage nursing and boding, and make things easier. i think dh thinks he will spoil the baby by giving it too much attention. i was glad someone in an "official" position gave some info to back up my past arguments with dh. lol.

Congrats Leah!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome Gwyneth Joy!!!! : : : :

I was glad that the teacher of our childbirth class (I think it was her) told us that you cannot spoil a baby by giving it too much attention! I already knew that and I know that DH will go with the flow, but in case anyone tries to tell us otherwise, I was glad that we both got to hear it!

: Joy! : Congratulations! You did great. Pitocin was rough for me and my only regret was that the epidural didn't work! As pps said you did the best you could with less than ideal circumstances. Glad BFing is going well and that your MW supports you with co-sleeping. That wasn't my original plan either, but it has worked out well for us and for pete's sake you need some rest!

Leah, it's OK to grieve for the L&D that you didn't get. My L&D with Brynn was about as opposite as I could have wanted, and most people could not understand that it was a big loss in my heart to have had the experience that I did. I would get so frustrated with people saying, "Well you have a healthy baby, and that's all that matters!" Which - yes, is true (we all know that is true) but it IS also true that this experience is something that has taken a toll emotionally on you. It's OK to honor that.

Nurse, nurse, nurse! If you can get the milk in and the poop (and bilirubin) out, jaundice should resolve itself quickly. Also, if you can lay her nakey in the window with direct sunlight for a few minutes a few times a day, that really helps as well. Good luck!!

Oh - and CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your sweet baby girl!!
