babywearing after c-section

I wanted to find out how soon other moms were able to wear their babies after a c-section? It's been 11 days and my core is still so sore. Daddy has been wearing him and I'm so jealous! my midwife said 2 weeks should be fine.

i have pouches, hug-a-bub (like a moby), ergo... i forget what else. I've done a lot of babywearing in the past just never with this core pain!

I didn't start wearing ds1 until he was a few months old & it was still hard on me. I had a really horrible recovery, though.

I wore my DD in a ring sling on day five. It was a little painful but not too bad.

With in a week or two I was able to use a ring sling. It was much easier with my 8 pounder than it was with my 10 plus pounder!

My LO was about 4 days old when I started using my ring sling. I think with something like a RS, your able to get it a bit higher and off your tummy.

I honestly don't remember exactly, and it's been a little different with each of them. I'd say somewhere between two weeks and a month...maybe a little longer than a month with ds2, because of the infected incision, but not much.

i wore my little guy about 10 days after i had him. it WAS tender, but i limited it to about 20 minutes at first and worked up from there. he's 5 months now and we just got home from a 1.5 hour walk around the lake while he was in a pouch sling. we started walking together outside about a week ago (i was dying to go sooner but the weather was awful). at first my partner carried him most of the way but i found it was pretty easy to get strong enough to carry him all on my own.

when you do start carrying your little one, i'd suggest really focusing on not hunching forward. it seems natural to hunch, to protect the incision site, but that will just slow your healing. shoulders back, chest out, try to imagine holding your core/abs steady. i actually read that wearing the baby in that position, with everything aligned where it should be, speeds up c-section healing.

I think DD was 3 weeks old when I first started wearing her in the ring sling for short periods. I'm sure it's different for everyone though. Congrats on your baby, and I hope you recover quickly!

10 days or so

I think it was about a week after, in a ring sling also. Its my favorite in the beginning and I like how high I can get the baby. I still do it only a little in the first month and around the house, at fussy times esp.

Take it easy though and listen to your own body, taking the time and resting often to heal now will lead to you feeling better and having many sweet months of babywearing!

thank you!

If it's painful, then wait a bit longer.

I've had 4 sections and I'm pretty sure I was using a sling by a week or two with my last baby... you just have to be carful to wear them higher so that it doesn't bump your incision. I can't imagine using a carrier that went directly around the waist for a month or two.

I got a Beco when dd was 3-4 weeks and used it straight away.

However, the waistband always started bothering me after a while (probably half an hour or so). Not real pain, but it was annoying, kind of itchy feeling, and then getting pretty uncomfortable/painful after say an hour or an hour and a half of wearing her.

It gradually got less, and never bothered me too much, really. I mean it never stopped me from wearing her.

At first, I didn't tie the waistband too tight, I wore most of dd's weight on my shoulders, which was ok because she was still a newborn so not too heavy

I had a pretty uneventful c/s and recovery was quite good so YMMV.

I tried the hug-a-bub today for about 45 minutes and it went well! That kept his weight high.

As long as you feel comfortable, no trouble at all!
