s/o: did your child wean at 5x birthweight?

saw this on another CLW thread, something about how mammals generally self wean at 5x their birthweight. for those who have CLW'd a child, can you recall if they were approximately 5x their birthweight, or bigger, or smaller?

I'll let you know when ds hits 51 pounds. Although I doubt he'll still be nursing at that point. He's been hanging out at 31 pounds for quite some time now and he's going to be 3 in June. DD self-weaned the day before her 4th birthday, at 35 pounds. 5x her birthweight would be 37 pounds, so that is pretty close.

Never heard that one. Interesting. Well, by that dd will keep nursing quite a bit longer I suppose...

I haven't heard this either but yes pretty much. DS weighed 8lb 5 0z and weaned at around 42 lbs.

interesting. not true for us, though. tall skinny dd weaned at 35-ish pounds, and was 8lbs15oz at birth.

Not true for us, though DS has been holding steady at just about 5x his birthweight for a few months now. Maybe he just needs an extra pound or two.

DS weighed nearly 10 pounds and has been hanging around the 40 pound mark forever.

Hmm. It's actually pretty true for my kid... she was 9 pounds at birth and self-weaned when she was almost four and around 43-44 pounds...

That's an interesting question, because I don't really know how much my daughter weighed when she weaned. I haven't been weighing her. But I'm thinking she probably was 5x birthweight. She was a little over 11 lbs at birth, so that would be 55 lbs, and she weaned just before her 5th birthday. She weighs about 65 lbs now, at 5 and a half.

My first daughter was somewhere between 3.5 and 4 when she weaned completely, but it was at 3 years 7 months that she stopped daily nursing. She was a little over 9 lbs at birth, so that would have been 45 lbs. I'm not sure if she weighed that much then, but somewhere I have it written down. She was probably at least 40 lbs, I think.

She was weaned at 4 yrs 8 mos and since she's 5 and not quite 42 lbs... no. It was not 5x her birth weight.

Mine was born at just under 7 pounds, so by that measure she'll wean at 35 pounds. But at age 3.5 she's only 25 pounds; at this rate she'll be 13 before she hits 35 pounds!

My ds1 has a few more pounds to hit it. With him that could take another year or so. He's already 6 and only nurses a couple of times a week.

Ds2 has about 7 pounds to go. He's not anywhere near weaning.

Interesting, never heard that one. If that's the case DS would wean at about 44 lbs. That could be a while-- at 7 months he's still a few pounds shy of doubling his birth weight.

hmmm.not sure. Dd was 9lbs. Im trying to remember if she was around 45 at weaning. No she was under, she was still in 5 point and not yet 3yrs old. I think I would have had to nurse her until she was 4 or 5yrs old to hit 45lbs.

Not true for us DD is over 5 x and still going as strongly as I will let her.
DS still has about 12 lbs to go.

Not true here. that would be 43 and 51 pounds, and neither of my kids will be that weight for a long time.

Hmmm... DD is about 40 pounds I think, 5 years old, and she weaned in December. She was 6 lbs. 6 oz. when born. So no, I think she was more than 5 x her birthweight.

I thought it made total sense though that she weaned in December and as of about February, she started grinding her teeth like mad during the night. A friend the same age was doing it too, and me and the mom were discussing it. We called the dentist to see if it was a problem. Dentist said, no, if they just started doing it, that just means they're loosening their baby teeth in preparation for them to fall out. So DDs weaning seems to be on track with her getting of adult teeth.
