I was at Babies R Us last weekend picking up a few things off a friend's registry. I was back by the diapers section and was stopped by a couple standing in front of the formula shelves with a scan gun, obviously filling out their registry. They stopped me and asked if I was a mom (still 16 months into it that question still takes me back..like, yeah I am a MOM!) and if I breastfed. I said yeah, still going strong at 16 months! The husband asked if you still need "this" (pointing to the cans of formula) if you breastfeed. I said "no way!" The wife said, but I am returning to work, how will I have enough? I said, "I work too, I pump while I am away from my DD. It's all about supply and demand. The more you do it, the more you have. You'll have enough, don't worry!". The husband said, "yeah that way is cheaper too!!"
The husband seemed really bf-supportive, that was nice. They thanked me and walked on, not scanning one can of formula. I walked away smiling and then a few minutes later it hit me that that entire conversation occurred so naturally and that was my first public lactivism moment!
