Life insurance companies...who is good? who to stay away from?

We are shopping for term life insurance. I did the Zander Insurance quote form thing that I've read recommended here and several of the companies had lower rates than our current insurance provider (USAA) is quoting.

Is there a rating system of the best insurance companies? Since these companies seem to be so volatile right now it makes me even more nervous about picking one. I also don't want to go with whoever has the best rate if that means I have to die on a Tuesday while wearing a yellow shirt in order for my beneficiary to get paid, ya know what I mean?

Any advice/suggestions?

If you've had your policy with USAA for more than 2 years, call them and see if they can cut you a better deal. If you weren't originally placed in the best risk group, you are entitled to a health re-assessment every 2 years, which can help lower your premiums.
