Midwives at Concord Hospital?

Hi all,

I'm new here and am looking for advice. I am considering having my baby at Concord Hospital (NH), but can't find any information about the midwives there. If anyone has any thoughts/recommendations, I would love to hear them.

Thanks very much!

A few of my friends have used the midwives at Dartmouth Hitchcock, and for the most part were happy. Apparently the wait times for appointments are wicked bad, and trying to get in touch with them without going through all the receptionists and nurses is just about impossible. But the midwives themselves were good.

I delivered at Concord (not with a midwife), and was really happy with them. I had a c-section, and I had my son with me within minutes. The nurses were helping me breastfeed within 10 minutes or so. I wasn't really impressed with the lactation consultants, but that may have been because there were a LOT of babies born while I was there, so there weren't enough of the LCs to go around. My son stayed with me the whole time we were there, the nurses had no problem with him sleeping with me. I would highly recommend Concord.

Hi LB-
I am a doula in Concord who has had great experiences with the midwives, both personally (one of them caught my DD) and professionally with clients. I recall one time with a *really* long wait; otherwise they were prompt. They *won't* rush you if you have questions- which I loved, but that could explain others' experiences with waits.

One thing to keep in mind- DHC has limited the midwives' practice hours to business hours M-F; so even if you see the midwives throughout your pregnancy, there's no guarantee they'll be at your labor. (which is frustrating as so many women have their babies in the evenings or on the weekend.)

I can't say enough about the three of them- they have been amazing in the births with which I've been involved; you just need to decide if you're okay having an OB attend your birth should your baby decide to come in the evening or on the weekend. Feel free to PM me if you want more specific info and congratulations!!::
